Remember this genocide. Remember what individuals, organizations & governments prioritized. Remember how they misrepresented the past & present. Remember the chasm between their beliefs & actions. Remember who they vilified. Remember their cowardice. Remember their complicity.

You are the first listed signatory on an open letter describing a group of my law students—predominantly, racialized women, many Arab and Muslim—as terrorist sympathizers, unfit for legal practice, and “miserably” incompetent. *Which* students come first, Jon?

To me the students always ALWAYS come first. I mistakenly thought that was a universal view. Obviously not. Just maybe, may you should think about our students for just a second. @OsgoodeNews @YorkUPresident @bnaibrithcanada @AviBenlolo

After reflecting on Trudeau’s #brownface (and now #blackface) scandal, a THREAD: TL;DR: Racism is systemic. Policies matter. Commit to anti-racism. Amplify racialized voices. Scrutinize for consistency. Race is complex. Its discourse must meet that complexity, not overlook it.

Comparing a woman’s ownership of her own body with a white person’s ownership of Black bodies is a spectacular combo of racism and sexism.

As a prof. who has been targeted by “anti-woke” organizing in Ontario—incl. being named in widely disseminated campaign materials that compare my teaching on race to “attack[ing] the very foundations” of society—I urge us to link legitimizing right-wing moral panics w/ violence.

Second, be *precise*. Specifically, ask the right questions: Not “is Trudeau racist?” But “how do his actions reflect systemic racism?” And “what are we doing to dismantle that system?” The individualization of racism is what upholds its systemic force.

First, be *aware*. Stop being surprised by events like this. It’s not “shocking” that Trudeau wore blackface; It’s expected. Racism is systemic in Canada. Those who deny it aren’t seeing a different society, they’re simply failing to name it.

The "Canadian Handbook on the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism" says: 1. That it is a "misconception" that "the IHRA definition silences criticism of Israel" (pg. 49); and 2. That this misconception is, itself, antisemitic (pg. 50). LMAO canada.ca/en/canadian-he…

It’s instructive that Canada’s most powerful law school—in alliance with a fraternity of white judges—is, with impunity, suppressing speech about one of the most oppressed racialized communities in the world. *We* are told law is about order, while *they* wield it for power.

Seventh, be *realistic*. If we unearthed the skeletons from every candidate’s closet—especially those who support regressive social policy—it may be even uglier. Trudeau’s actions matter. But don’t pretend everyone else has an unblemished history. Weigh this scandal accordingly.
