I think the reason the whole "Batman is a fascist" narrative doesn't work for me is because I grew up with media that hammered in, again and again, that he is so deeply kind
The reason no one “gets” Batman is everyone forgets he has a surrogate Mom who devoted her entire life to helping the poor and traumatized.
Even after Bruce probably offered to make her a millionaire like a hundred times.
Everyone remembers *this* guy who taught him about acting and war.
Nobody ever remembers the woman on the right, who taught him never to compromise his values and how to lead with his whole ass heart.
But Batman can empathize with you at your lowest moment. Offer a hand to guide you out of the darkness. Because he’s been there before. And he knows there’s a way out.
That’s why I will also never accept the “Batman is mentally ill” take. It’s not crazy to do what he does. It’s heroic. And it matches his damage in just the right way that it’s cathartic.
Batman’s behavior is abnormal. Maybe even spectrum. Because everyone processes trauma differently. But he has absolutely processed that trauma and put it behind him. Used it to build him into the man he is now. Because if he didn’t…

This man's "crime" was suing a corporation and winning a judgement against them amounting to millions of dollars in fines for the illegal dumping of black, cancer-causing oil sludge in Ecuador. Next to indigenous people who got sick and died. But he's the one in prison.
