"Canada offers #MAiD but not universal palliative care, disability supports, or mental healthcare. Do we congratulate ourselves for our compassion in giving people an easier way to die when depriving them of the resources they need to live?" Dr. John Maher on Bill C-7

Alarmingly, Dr. Roy goes on to recommend that MAiD not only be provided to mature minors, but to infants under the age of one "with severe deformations and grave and severe syndromes." To be clear: People with disabilities have a right to life on an equal basis with others.

Bill C-22 has finally been passed! This historic move is a big step towards financial security for #PWD. However, the work is not done - we look forward to collaborating to develop #C22 regulations. We're ready to get to work tomorrow, but let's celebrate today.

Bill C-22 has now received Royal Assent and becomes law by "written declaration" by the Governor General. See video of the Royal Assent process which took place earlier this evening in the Senate Chamber. Another historic day for people with disabilities.

Since the expansion of #MAiD in 2021, we've argued the 'suffering' that may cause ppl to seek MAiD is not due to their disability but to a lack of proper support When MAiD is easier to get than in this man's case, a proper mattress, we have gone too far

There's 15 sitting days left - where is #C22? Canadians with a #disability need this support. Contact your MP. Text them to make #C22 a priority and pass it this June: ourcommons.ca/members/en

Bill #C22 will be considered by @SenateCA next sitting! We join our #disability community allies in urging Senate to approve amendments and expedite this bill to Royal Assent. People with disabilities and their families cannot wait any longer. The #CDB is needed now.

The Special Joint Committee on MAiD (#AMAD) is discussing MAiD for Mature Minors. Elizabeth Sheehy starts out strong "I add my voice to the clear and unequivocal opposition expressed unanimously by disability rights groups across this country to yet another extension of MAiD".
