An update following the Wickford derailment.
    Wickford rail repairs update
Wednesday 19 August

We continue to work night and day to repair the railway in the Wickford area following last Friday’s derailment.

Yesterday saw further progress as we started to see some of the key materials arriving at the site by rail, after the removal of the train involved the day before. This meant that supplies of the some of the sections of replacement rails, and the ballast that supports the track, could begin to be delivered.

As previously outlined, with over one and a half miles of track to repair, over 3700 sleepers to replace, and additional work needed to repair signalling and overhead line equipment, it’s a huge and complex task. We’re doing all we can to complete those repairs and restore a normal service as soon as possible. However, at this stage, that process is still expected to take another week.

As soon as we can confirm a date for re-opening of the railway and reintroduction of the normal service, we will do so. In the meantim
