My latest. This story is based on FOI documents released before the Ford government changed the law. Under the new rules, the province will now be able to keep records like this secret.

Star Investigation: As a Ford government staffer, he helped get through permits for a controversial gold mine. Now he works for the company as a lobbyist. #onpoli New from @EmmaMci: trib.al/WeC3iH3

BREAKING: The federal government has decided it will step in and take over the environmental assessment of the Ford government's Highway 413 project. This is huge news. Many believe this decision will effectively kill the project as the fed EA is much more rigorous. #onpoli

Pretty much everything @fordnation just said about the Greenbelt at the presser just now is false or misleading. Quick fact checking thread. #onpoli

Dunno if everyone knows this, but in Canada, public airwaves belong to all of us. In exchange for using the airwaves, broadcasters have long been required to provide local news service. So Bell is asking here to abandon its foundational responsibility to the Canadian public.

Updated this story with Premier Ford's comments today: he's arguing the Greenbelt is provincial jurisdiction. It is, but — courts have affirmed that climate issues are federal jurisdiction, and Greenbelt is a climate issue. So this could get interesting!

BREAKING: The Supreme Court of Canada has reached a decision in the #Redwater case. When energy companies go bankrupt, the cleanup of their old oil and gas wells must take priority over paying off creditors, the court found. Sides with Alberta Energy Regulator. Story soon.

I am once again asking male journalists to stop claiming that if only people had known that a politician was accused of sexual misconduct against 19-year-old instead of an 18-year-old, it totally would have been OK and that politician would have been premier

If you’re writing about Toronto experiencing 26-degree weather in October as a super fun thing, and not mentioning the words “climate change,” you are not reporting the situation accurately and you are doing readers a disservice. This isn’t normal and we can’t pretend it is!

A Saturday evening #onpoli shocker: the chair of Doug Ford’s Greenbelt Council, former PC MP David Crombie, has resigned over changes to conservation authorities. Calls them “disastrous, and “high-level bombing” that “needs to be resisted.”

Why would anyone spend millions on Greenbelt land that can't be built on? Six developers did since 2018 — now, their land is set to be taken out of the Greenbelt. Lucky bet? Or did they know? A ✨Starwhal✨ investigation by me, @njaved and @BKennedyStar

By far the biggest jaw-dropped in the integrity commissioner report so far: typed notes from a meeting indicate the Premier directly gave files about three sites to Ryan Amato. Amato, Premier Ford and Premier's Office staff deny this.
