There are high school coaches that are more knowledgeable and develop better than college coaches.
Some of those coaches are only in those positions because of who they know.
Next school year, I challenge ALL coaches to go to sporting events outside of your season that your athletes participate in.
1) it means a lot to the athletes to see you take interest in them outside the sport you coach
2) it builds school culture
A lot of coaches preach this “We is greater than me” but don’t apply that mindset when if comes to the athletic dept.
If you keep athletes from doing other sports because you only care about your sport, you aren’t modeling the same behavior you expect from your athletes.
When I came to my first collegiate track practice with my state champion shirt on an upperclassman told me “We don’t care about your HS accomplishments. Everyone here was a state champion”. Humbled lol
Recruiting 101: If you think the amount of attention you receive dwindles when you commit, wait until you actually sign. If you want attention as a college player, you must earn it. Your offers, ranking, stars, final 3 or 4 will be irrelevant to everyone in the locker room. #Ap2w
