I had such a good conversation with President Mbeki, both of us traveling to Opening of Parliament in CT tonight. He’s been following the work @sarstax quite closely & is a big supporter of what we are doing to rebuild the institution post state capture. Thank you @TMFoundation_

Exactly a week ago I was privileged to invite my mom Jocelyn to our SARS Revenue Announcement. This morning she left us peacefully. She had one of the most defining impacts in my life. Her legacy remain a precious and indelible blessing!

Hospitals not keeping up with numbers. A colleague lost a 46 yr brother today to COVID-19. Was rushed to the local hospital but they had no beds. Rushed to nearby town, but sadly succumbed before being admitted. It’s not another statistic. It’s a husband, father, son & brother!

Interesting that ⁦@BainAlerts⁩ would take out a full page advert to say sorry for “serious mistakes” at SARS, instead of just contacting us at ⁦@sarstax⁩ and talk to us.

If we’re told to wear gas masks due to chemical warfare, or told to stay in shelter due to air raids, we would do it without question. Just because the virus is invisible does not mean it’s any less life threatening. Wear your mask! Stay indoors! Your health & life depend on it.

In 1997 when I was a young Power Station Manager, China was remarkably building an equivalent ESKOM every year. Today they’re down to building a 1000 bed hospital in 8 days, while we’ve sadly regressed!

South Africans have spoken. Whatever your persuasion, we can all be proud of the maturity our democracy has displayed in past 2 weeks, & in particular yesterday. Countries who consider themselves “1st World” can take a leaf out of our book. It must however benefit everyone!
