This is the earliest coin to depict Jesus. It was minted in Constantinople in 450 to celebrate the marriage of Emperor Marcian & Pulcheria. Jesus is shown between the imperial couple. This specimen from the Hunterian collection is the only known example.

Some proof guineas of George III that were minted between 1761 to 1774. These are all from the collection built by William Hunter in the 18th century. They are now held by the Hunterian museum, which is named in his honour.

George III is shown wearing a crown on this pattern halfpenny of 1799 that never entered circulation. Had this design been adopted, it would have been the first circulating British coin to depict a crowned monarch in over a century. This example is from the Hunterian collection.

A thistle is depicted on this Scottish 40 pence coin of Charles I that was minted in Edinburgh sometime between 1639 & 1641. The thistle first appeared on Scottish coins in the 1470s & it continued to do so until the last Scottish coins were struck in 1706. From the Hunterian.

The royal coat of arms of Charles I is supported by the English lion & Scottish unicorn on this extremely rare silver halfcrown. The coin, which dates to 1645, is the oldest to depict the lion & unicorn together. This example is from the collection of the Hunterian.
