Super excited to share that a story from my postdoctoral work in the @HuguenardLab is out today in eLife. 🥳 In it we explore the neural basis of attention dysfunction in epilepsy.
YA'LL, I've got some news! I'm over the moon to announce I'll be joining Harvard Medical School and Boston Children's Hospital as an Assistant Professor of Genetics and Neurology.
And just like that, I'm wrapping up my first official week as an Assistant Professor.
I was nervous to tweet about it (as if it might go away if I said it out loud? I DON'T KNOW)
But now I have an office and a new headshot so I guess it's really real! Lab photos coming soon!
It’s a new week and I’ve got a shiny new lab space!
Looking around at the lab all full of potential, I’m feeling incredibly grateful and am so excited to start building. #NewPI
I'd be remiss without shouting out my fiance (@Vesuveus). He's joining MIT Sloan as their inaugural Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We're so looking forward to the next chapter in Boston, and I'm so excited for the future we're building together. 🥳
Hey @BlackInNeuro fam! 👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾
I'm Brielle, I'm a neuroscientist and postdoc @Stanford, and I study attention impairments in a genetic mouse model of absence epilepsy.
And I'm SO proud to answer the #BlackNeuroRollCall 🗣
Thinking back to when I didn't even know what a neuron let alone a neuroscientist was
When I applied to grad school but was rejected from every program but one because I didn't have a "traditional" science background
If you told me I'd be here? 🥺🥺😩😭
As a Black woman in science, every win has felt bigger than me, and this is no different. While I have so many research questions I want to tackle, I'm just as eager to be able to pay it forward.
The Ferguson Lab (still getting used to that 😅) will study all things cognitive function in mice with mutations linked to disorders like autism, schizophrenia, and epilepsy, to identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets for patients seeking treatment for cognitive impairments.
Hey fam!👋🏾 I’m Brielle and I’m a postdoc @Stanford.
Since last year:
🏆I won 2 awards
👩🏾🔬Mentored 2 new trainees
👩🏽🏫Gave 7 invited seminars
And helped put on ALOT of programming to support and empower Black neuroscientists that I’m so deeply proud of. #BINW21#BlackInNeuroRoll
I'm here because of mentors who saw potential in me, and I can't wait to do my part to support the next generation, and fill the lab with a team of truly diverse scientists.
It's been about 8 years with the same twitter name, so it might be time for a 'lil change-up 😅. Dr. Bri is here, ya'll, and she's got a new prof pic! ☺️
On my #BlackJourneyToNeuro, I struggled in many of my science classes before finding neuroscience and applying to PhD programs.
Many times over the last 10 years I questioned whether this space was for me, but earlier this year I started my dream job. #BINW23
