In July, four of us had the party whip suspended for defending disabled people and fighting for the real values of the Labour Party. Mandelson has not been suspended.

Earlier today I asked the Chancellor why there was £600 million for Ineos to build a plant in Belgium and why that money was there for Antwerp and not Grangemouth. The answer didn’t clear that up. The government should do the right thing and step in to save Scottish jobs.

For someone to refer to myself and my other suspended colleagues actions as “persistent knobheadery” is disappointing. It really highlights the very real issue that some people have a serious lack of patter.

I did not become a Labour member to impoverish vulnerable people. The proposed cuts to welfare should be rejected and the government should focus on improving people's living standards and creating a society that looks after people.

The idea that more austerity is needed to counter the problems created by austerity the first time round is absolute madness. Reject all cuts, tax the richest and tackle the inequalities that are destroying our country.

This is not “caving in”. This would be a 2 tier welfare programme that would still put people into poverty. This is not the society we should try to build. I will not support this.

The refusal to have an annual wealth tax on multi millionaires means that inequality across the UK will continue to grow and living standards for the many will continue to plummet. People didn’t vote for more austerity and a managed decline.

There’s gov’t money for Ineos to build a refinery in Belgium. There’s gov’t money for Ineos’s owner to redevelop his football stadium. But there’s no gov’t money for the Grangemouth refinery workers, their community & Scotland. That sums up everything that’s wrong with politics.

Austerity is not the politics of grassroots Labour party members and it should never be the politics of a Labour government. There’s nothing brave about cutting public spending. Real bravery would be taxing the multimillionaires/billionaires and changing society for the better.
