CRT simulator GPU shader coming December 24, 2024 on github & shadertoy! Genesis of CRT-simulation replacements in future, when used CRT tubes are near-extinct. Tomorrow's 240Hz, 480Hz & 1000Hz OLEDs can optionally faithfully simulate CRT electron beam for 60fps content.

30fps most certainly is playable* *Caveat: A subsection of human population (~10%) get motion sickness or headaches from low frame rates & so for that, high framerate is defacto "Accessibility Setting". It's similar to those 10% of peeps who have CRT eyestrain (etc). We usually

The 30fps is "unplayable" narrative is one of the worst trends to ever happen in gaming. This asinine PC lames rhetoric has you passing on great game experiences Yet 95% of you can't tell the difference between 30fps & 60fps unless you're told beforehand 30fps plays fine

A 2015 study suggests most people can discern higher framerates when presented films at varying rates. source.sheridancollege.ca/centres_sirt_w… Additionally, framerate provides an objective difference in both skill and general enjoyment in the context of games, considerably moreso than resolution. web.cs.wpi.edu/~claypool/pape… web.cs.wpi.edu/~claypool/pape…

TL;DR: Both low frame rates AND high frame rates are an accessibility feature. One person lost headaches at 120fps->24fps (decrease), a different person lost headaches when 120fps->480fps (increase) It is very human dependent. For some humans, we found a motion-sickness uncanny

Last night, Trista was playing a third person 3D platformer game (Pumpkin Jack) and started to feel a little sick. I suggested cutting the max frame rate from 120 to 60 in settings, and that made it better. Simulator sickness tends to come from high quality rendering of smooth

As a deaf individual, it's pretty good stuff. The difficulty I have playing traditional competitive games, is that a lot of competition is audio-cue based, such as activity happening behind me. Things like directional flashes are pretty appreciated by people like me!

Open source code is now released forthe world's most accurate looking CRT simulation. It lets you simulate the electron beam of a 60Hz CRT tube on your 240Hz+ display, in real time, and looks better than BFI.

Currently assisting @retrotink2 on black frame insertion (BFI). Video processor that can add software BFI in realtime on fly. - Single & double strobe (if output Hz supports) - Customizable persistence (if output Hz supports) - LCD Saver (not needed for OLED)
