Very sad to hear. George represented part of my constituency up to the boundary changes in 2010 and was widely respected by constituents and colleagues. He was a great support and friend from when I was elected. Thinking of you and Julie today. Rest in peace.

Speaker paid tribute to Sir George Howarth who died last week. He was MP for Knowsley from 1986 to 2024.

    1. President Trump reportedly said that Ed Miliband should not be chancellor. This is consistent with the narrative of the anti-energy transition coalition, and their allies in the right wing press, who depict Ed as a zealot.

    12. In short without a change in the way the Government talks about the North Sea, the energy transition could take longer, and cost more, because our high quality domestic energy industry will have moved to other parts of the world where there is greater certainty and support.

    13. This narrative has become increasingly compelling to me, and other members of the committee, especially given the pragmatic approaches to energy policy which we've recently seen in Canada, Norway, Denmark and Holland.

Excellent. While we're at it - let's move Parliament to the NEC while we renovate the building.

The net zero economy now supports 1.1m UK jobs and generates £105bn in economic value - proof that tackling climate change & growing the economy can go hand in hand. Carbon Budget 7 laid in Parliament today provides certainty to help unlock more investment and energy security.

The scenes this evening in Portswood are completely unacceptable. The Nowak family made a powerful call to us all yesterday to not let Henry’s death be used to create further division, hatred or tension. There can be no justification for hijacking this tragedy to stir up

Cutting the cost of electricity is the number one priority which the @CommonsESNZ committee has heard from those giving evidence to us. Would be great to discuss your recommendations, some of which seem consistent with what the government is suggesting it will do.

What’s the biggest barrier to decarbonising Britain? We think it’s expensive electricity. @BritishProgress have 4 policy ideas to cut household bills by £115, and save businesses 7%. But bill reductions must come alongside market reform - to ensure long term value for money.

More dishonesty. 1. We are not shutting down domestic oil and gas production. 2. A third of the oil + gas workforce lost their jobs when your party was in Government - where was the outrage then? 3. You did nothing to ban the import of Russian products - no sanctions - we are.

It’s almost beyond belief, but yes, Labour’s energy policy is to shut down our own domestic oil and gas industry whilst directly funding Putin’s war machine instead. On Tuesday, while Labour MPs were voting to ban new British oil and gas licences, behind the scenes the
