“Under any other president, a UAE royal secretly paying $500 million to the Trump family’s crypto business would cause a political earthquake in Washington. There would be an investigation by Congress, televised hearings, and months of damage control” — my latest @guardian

15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia. Since then, the US has bombed these countries, either by planes, missiles, or drones: — Afghanistan — Iraq — Pakistan — Yemen — Somalia — Philippines — Libya — Syria

Here’s a useful Arabic proverb for this kind of hypocrisy: “He kills the victim, and marches in his funeral”

Today I met with families from Gaza. I heard the suffering that they and their loved ones continue to endure. Some killed or wounded, others displaced. We are working tirelessly to get more aid to people in Gaza and secure an immediate ceasefire and release of hostages.

One day, when it’s too late, we’ll hear a similar admission that the US and its allies could have stopped the genocide in Gaza

The @nytimes is not only conducting an internal investigation to find staffers who leaked information to @theintercept — it’s singling out Arab and Muslim journalists for “extensive questioning” about their views on NYT coverage. Every NYT journalist should be outraged by this.

This has been an extraordinarily dangerous year for press around the world. Many killed, many more wounded, hundreds detained, attacked, threatened, injured – simply for doing their jobs. I am profoundly grateful to the press for getting accurate, timely information to people.

Oh glorious @nytimes — please enlighten us on how Arabs and other Middle Easterners treat foreign policy as a bazaar, while the US and Western powers pursue grand policies that seek the betterment of humankind

I listened to Trump's inauguration speech dubbed on an Arabic channel — it could have easily been Saddam, Assad, or Sisi
