RIP My Sweet Luke. May 12, 1998-August 22, 2019. Strongest person I have ever seen. My hero. You may have left this earth, but you will never leave our hearts.

Today we lost a son, a brother, a friend, and a warrior. Have never seen a person battle like Luke Laufenberg, but he lost his fight with cancer. He was truly inspirational. The hole in our hearts will never be filled. You are my hero. RIP my sweet Luke. See you on the other side

We can debate ad nauseam the merits of Jason Garrett’s coaching tenure with the Cowboys. Here is what I know- after working 14–16 hour days, he showed up late at night, unannounced, for the last 3 days of Luke’s life. That is what I know.

It was 98 degrees on July 10. Luke had lifted weights and was working on his routes. I loved coaching him. Receptive to coaching. Two days later, he was told he had 2-8 weeks to live. All he wanted in life was to play football. TY @UTEPAthletics @UTEPFB

Why are we smiling on a day when Jason Witten retires? Because this tight end was pronounced cancer free today! I can say I have never been more proud of anything in my life than the way @LukeLaufenberg battled his ass off. He has shown me what it means to compete.

I took Luke to the Nike store. He had $30 left on a gift card. He found something that was $50. I told him I would pay the difference. He said, “nah, that’s too much money.” He knew he had 2-8 weeks to live. Who thinks like that? I would have bought him the store. #LiveLikeLuke

Grateful to all who have asked how they can honor Luke. Being a scholarship football player at @UTEPAthletics meant so much to him. In his memory, we are establishing the Luke Laufenberg "FIGHT" Scholarship Fund, which will help deserving students. Details to come.

Had a great coffee convo with Luke at Palace Coffee in Amarillo when I was driving him to Mesa, AZ to begin his football season a few years back. Stopped this morning and got him a cup, just in case he decided to join me #LiveLikeLuke

Luke’s Christmas tree. Had it up in his room since he was little and he wanted to leave it lit all night. I think when you are the youngest, you like things to call your own. I put it in his room this year for the first time since he passed. Reminds me of the bright light he was.

Luke would have turned 22 today. This was the card I wrote him for his 21st. Was hoping I was going to get to write him a card for his 22nd, but instead I had to write his eulogy. I will be posting throughout the day to remember him, so block me now- I’ll understand.
