Per the Elias Sports Bureau, the Pirates are the first team to sweep the best team in a league (Tigers) and get swept by the worst team in a league (White Sox) in back-to-back series since the 1980 Padres. It’s been that kind of year.

ICYMI, Isiah Kiner-Falefa declined the Pirates’ offer to play today and hit a performance bonus. Derek Shelton said when he originally set the lineup he didn’t know about the bonus, and then offered Kiner-Falefa a chance to start when he found out. IKF’s explanation:

Pirate fans Vinay and Toren Mehta caught Andrew McCutchen’s 300th home run ball. (Hit off Toren’s cap, Vinay got it on the rebound). They didn’t know it was his 300th. Philly fans wanted them to throw it back. Instead, they get to meet Cutch.
