Adding Custom fields to your Marker

Overview #

This section covers how to create and use your own custom fields for your markers.

Prerequisites #

The Following Plugin/s need to be installed and active

  • WP Go Maps
  • WP Go Maps Pro Add-on

Creating a custom Field. #

To add a custom field to your markers please navigate as follows:

WPG Go Maps -> Marker Fields

Name the field #

Type in the Name of the Custom field you’d like to create into the Name field

Select the field type #

Select the Type of field to create, from the type options The Following Field Types can be created:

  • Text – This type of field accepts free text input
  • Dropdown – This type of field will display as a dropdown in when filtering is enabled
  • Checkboxes – This type of field will display as checkboxes when filtering is enabled
  • Time Range – This field accepts a time as input, and will allow filtering by Time Range when filtering is enabled
  • Date Range – This field accepts a date as input, and will allow filtering by Date Range when filtering is enabled

Select the field meta button to edit the custom field meta information

Here the follow items can be edited:

  • Icon: font awesome icons can be selected by typing the font awesome icon name
  • Visibility: Field visibility can be configured for display on Info Windows and Marker Listings. Check each desired option to display accordingly
  • HTML Attributes: HTML name and Value attributes can be set here if required

When the marker is configured as required, please select the Save Fields Button

Changing the Marker custom field order #

The order in which fields are displayed in the Marker editor, Info Windows and Listings can be changed by selecting the field handle and dragging the field to the desired place in the field list. Markers displayed at the top of the list will be displayed first in the marker editor, Info window or Marker listing

Once you are satisfied with the order, please press the Save fields Button

Using your Custom Fields #

Editing the custom field values in the marker editor #

On the Map editor of your selected map, you are able to navigate to the Markers page to edit the custom fields of an existing marker (or create a new marker if required)

Navigate to:

WP Go MAPS -> Maps (edit your chosen map) -> Markers

The Marker editor can be accessed by selecting the ellipses in the Action column of the marker list and then pressing edit

The custom fields will be available to edit near the bottom of the editor

Edit values as required and remember to hit the Save Marker Button when complete

Importing Custom field values #

Custom field values can also be updated via File import.

Please see the following example in the case of a CSV upload:

If the Custom Field has already been created as described above, the field name can be used as the field header, and values can be added as with any other field

Custom fields can also be created on-the-fly during an import by adding a header in the following format Custom Field: Custom Field name. in the example below the custom field name is “Capitol”
