Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about zero-cost mapping in WP Go Maps.

What is zero-cost mapping?

Zero-cost mapping means you can run fully featured maps on your WordPress site without paying for an API key, entering a credit card, or worrying about monthly fees. WP Go Maps uses Leaflet, OpenFreeMap, and Nominatim to make this possible.

Is the quality as good as Google Maps?

OpenFreeMap provides high quality tiles that look great on any website. For most use cases the visual quality is very comparable. Google Maps does offer extras like Street View and satellite imagery, but if you need a clean interactive map, the free option is excellent.

Are any features limited?

All core features work with zero-cost mapping, including markers, store locator, categories, marker listings, and shapes. A few Google-specific features like Street View and directions are not available on the Leaflet engine, but the vast majority of features are fully supported.

How do I set it up?

Install WP Go Maps from the WordPress plugin directory, go to the settings page, and select Leaflet as your map engine. Choose OpenFreeMap as your tile server and Nominatim as your geocoding provider. That is it. No API key or account registration needed.

Can I switch to Google Maps later?

Yes. You can switch your map engine from Leaflet to Google Maps at any time. All your markers, categories, shapes, and settings stay exactly where they are. Nothing is lost when you switch, so you can start free and upgrade whenever you are ready.

Does this work with the Pro version?

Absolutely. Zero-cost mapping works with both the free plugin and the Pro add-on. You get all Pro features like advanced marker listings, custom fields, and the full store locator while running on the free Leaflet engine with no API costs at all.
