Genga Living Nativity is an impressive religious event that takes place twice a year, in December and on specific days at the beginning of January.
It’s the largest living nativity in the world: a local association creates the living nativity in an impressive 30,000 m2 area near the spectacular Frasassi Caves. Amazing!

National Befana Day

Urbania, in the province of Pesaro–Urbino, is Befana’s official home and celebrates National Befana Day every January.
FEBRUARY

Every spring the Giornata FAI proposes unique and wonderful places in Italy, some of which are open only on the Giornata FAI and inaccessible during the rest of the year. To check the availability of all the places, just visit their website.
APRIL
Sagra dei Garagoi

Usually, during April, the town of Marotta hosts the famous festival of the coast, which is the Sagra dei GARAGOI, marine mollusks with a very tasty flavor.
It all began in 1948 when a group of local fishermen organized this festival, which now marks the beginning of the summer season.
MAY
Il Trionfo del Carnevale in Fossombrone
Historical Reenactment| May | Fossombrone, Pesaro and Urbino Province
Every second weekend in May, the town of Fossombrone comes alive with Renaissance flair during the annual Trionfo del Carnevale. Over three days, the historic centre transforms with district coats of arms, Renaissance markets, craft stalls, archery, music, fire shows, and bird of prey displays. Cantine Aperte (Open Cellars)
Wine | Popular festival | May or June | All Marche provinces
Vineyards all over Italy and in Le Marche usually open their cellars on the last Sunday in May (or the first days of June) to offer wine tastings and tours.
JUNE
Palio di San Giovanni Battista

Would you like to feel the real atmosphere from the Middle Ages?
The “Palio di San Giovanni Battista” is a festival that recalls the 14th Century, a time in which Fabriano experienced its golden age. Here you can experience medieval games, historical reenactment and the “Infiorate artistiche” (artistic flower carpets).

Mosciolando
Food | Traditions | Popular Event| April (Marotta, Pesaro and Urbino Province)
Usually, during the end of June, the Portonovo Bay hosts ‘Mosciolando’, a fishermen event dedicated to moscioli – wild mussels of the bay . Moscioli are a Slow Food presidia, which means that they’re protected by this global organization, which aim is to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions. You can check the program of the restaurants of the Portonovo bay during that period: every year, one of the restaurants organizes a dinner under the stars (it’s necessary to book it with many days or weeks in advance).

Macerata Opera Festival – Macerata
Opera | Historical Venue (Macerata Province)
Macerata Opera Festival is one of the most popular Italian events for opera lovers and occurs every summer – usually in July and August – in the magnificent Sferisterio in Macerata, Marche, Italy.
The Sferisterio Arena is an impressive building from the sec. XIX, and it’s a perfect setting for open-air opera productions. Every summer this event brings opera lovers and tourists from all over the world.

Festa del Covo

An authentic festival is the Festa del Covo, a religious event held every year on the first Sunday of August in the small village of Campocavallo, a village of Osimo (Ancona). The local farmers make a cart with grain. Every year it’s made differently but it’s always a religious theme: it could be a church, a sanctuary or a place of worship.

Brodetto Fest – Fano
Food | Folklore-Traditions | Mid of September (Fano, Pesaro and Urbino Province)
Usually, during the middle of September, Fano holds Brodetto Fest (a local Fish Soup Festival), which is popular among seafood lovers in the region.
Brodetto is the local name of the local soup fish and it is cooked using many types of fish, such as mussels, cuttlefish, gray mullet, reef mullet, bogue, crabs, clams and much more. During the event, it is possible to admire famous chefs’ exhibitions and cooking contests, and to choose the best recipe!

White Truffle National Fair – Acqualagna

Every year I promote this unique event with the same enthusiasm: there are rooms full of withering grapes, stories that tell of the ancient art of winemaking and intense aromas of fine wines in a town that covers the colors of autumn.

Appassimenti Aperti – annual event in Serrapetrona
Oil and Olive Fair – Cartoceto

Usually from the second week of November, there’s the Oil and Olive Fair of Cartoceto, in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino. Cartoceto oil (DOP) is Marche’s first and only DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) extra virgin olive oil.
The Fair is a big eno-gastronomic and cultural event that invites visitors on a journey through flavors, art, history, tradition and music.

DECEMBER
Candele a Candelara – Christmas market
Folklore-Traditions | Religious celebrations | Children | End of November and December (Candelara, Pesaro and Urbino Province)
One of the most unique Christmas markets in Central Italy takes place in the medieval village of Candelara, in the Marche region. “It was a warm and magical atmosphere. When they turn off the electricity it transports you to the past. Surrounded by candlelight, there is a feeling of hope, mystery, and spirituality.”
