Planned useMy hope is to integrate this into holotype data contributed by museum and research institutions, additionally this will be helpful for the BHL Wikidata project. Myself and a colleague are currently working on a holotypes upload and we hope to model the data as accurately as possible, and this property will be used if it is approved
Expected completenessalways incomplete (Q21873886)

Motivation

[edit]

This property proposal is part of the ongoing work to model a standardised natural science specimen model as part of this wikiproject: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Natural_History_Specimen_Data_Model. The addition of 'collection' specific properties has been devised to replace the current usage of 'discovery' type properties (ie; discoverer/inventor, time of discovery, and now in relation to this proposal - location of discovery). This partly due to a poor fit in these properties' scope, but also to move away from more colonial data models associating discovery with a natural history context. Additionally, the specificity of this property is important to distinguish between the location of the collection and holding institution to the location of the collection event in the field. Please feel free to comment with any suggestions, it is my hope that this will naturally complement the prior approved properties moving away from 'discovery' vernacular.
