It’s Not Luck, It’s Having Working Smoke Alarms!

Share smoke alarm materials with your community

Don’t test your luck.

Put smoke alarms inside and outside each bedroom and sleeping area, and have working smoke alarms on every level of the home.

Don’t let your luck run out.

Smoke alarms do not last forever. Get new ones every 10 years.

Make your own luck.

Test smoke alarms monthly, and replace batteries according to the manufacturer’s directions.

Community Risk Reduction

Basement and garage fire safety

Install a smoke alarm in the basement. Test it each month and clean it as needed. The basement smoke alarm should be connected to other smoke alarms in your home.

Install a heat alarm — not a smoke alarm — in your garage. The heat alarm will sound if the temperature rises too high.
