L2/01-059 From: Michael Everson Date: 01/24/2001 03:18:15 AM Summary of the Georgian documents: 1. They still don't get that they need 14651 not 10646 to get sorting. 2. They want three characters, two of which I have proposed before also, and one which can apparently be decomposed. They don't want to decompose it. The characters are (names I would give them follow in parentheses): GEORGIAN LETTER U-BRJGU (GEORGIAN LETTER WUN) => georgian letter un + combining circumflex accent GEORGIAN LETTER AINI (GEORGIAN LETTER ELIFI) Older sources call it elifi (< Arabic alif) but maybe they call it aini now. GEORGIAN IRRATIONAL VOWEL (GEORGIAN LETTER YN or GEORGIAN LETTER SHVA) 3. They promise more information later on Nuskhuri. They make a mistake comparing Fraktur and Roman in Latin with the situation in Georgian. ===== Actions: UTC should provisionally approve AINI and the IRRATIONAL VOWEL. UTC should respond to the GSDIT regarding decomposition of U-BRJGU. If you look at my Georgian documents you see that linguists use combining characters DIAERESIS and ACUTE anyway. It is my own intention to respond to the letter because I am interested in pursuing the Nuskhuri tack. I will probably reiterate the situation regarding ordering, and I'll discuss the character names issue.
