Yes. If you already hold a v2 certificate, it remains valid and does not “expire” in a traditional sense. However, the v2 English-language exams were retired in November 2025. If you are looking to progress from Foundation to Practitioner now, you must take the v3 Practitioner exam – which requires you to hold the v3 Foundation certificate first.

The pass mark for the v3 Foundation exam is 30 out of 50 questions (60%). Note that this is higher than the previous v2 standard, which was 50%. The exam is multiple-choice, lasts 40 minutes, and is closed-book.

Yes. A key feature of the v3 syllabus is its guidance on how to wrap AgilePM governance around Scrum delivery teams. It teaches Project Managers how to act as the bridge between corporate reporting requirements and the flexibility of a Scrum team working in Sprints.

Absolutely. AgilePM is often viewed as the “Agile cousin” to PRINCE2. It offers the same level of governance and control that PRINCE2 users are accustomed to, but is built from the ground up for iterative delivery. It is the ideal next step for any PRINCE2 Project Manager moving into a digital or agile role.

No. You must have passed the AgilePM® v3 Foundation exam before you can sit the Practitioner exam. Older v2 Foundation certificates are not accepted as a pre-requisite for the v3 Practitioner — the syllabus has changed significantly, particularly around Realisation and Scrum roles.

The Practitioner exam uses an “Objective Testing” format (scenario-based complex multiple choice). It is Open Book — you can use the official AgilePM v3 Reference Book during the exam. The exam tests your ability to apply the guidance to a realistic project scenario, rather than just recalling facts. The pass mark is 30 out of 60 (50%), and you have 2 hours to complete it.

The Foundation certificate does not expire – it is a lifetime qualification. The Practitioner certificate is valid for 5 years. To maintain your “Registered Practitioner” status, you must re-sit a shorter re-registration exam within 3 to 5 years of your initial certification to demonstrate your knowledge is still current.

You must pass the Foundation exam before you can take Practitioner.

It comes down to the scope of what you are managing. Scrum is a highly effective product delivery framework focused on team-level development and sprints. AgilePM goes wider—it is a full project management framework that wraps around those delivery teams, providing the necessary governance, business case focus, and lifecycle management. PRINCE2 Agile achieves something similar by blending traditional PRINCE2 governance with agile delivery techniques, whereas AgilePM (based on the DSDM framework) is designed organically to be agile from the very beginning of the project to the end.
