Submit Proposal for ATA Guidelines and Statements

PROCESS FOR INITIATING A NEW OR REVISED ATA GUIDELINE OR STATEMENT FOR PEER REVIEWED PUBLICATION

Initial Application

Members interested in developing a new official document are asked to complete the provided application form and submit current Financial Disclosure Forms and Copyright Assignment Forms.

The Guidelines & Statements Committee (GSC) will review the proposal and respond to the applicant(s) within 4 weeks. Potential responses could include:

  1. approval of the document proposal,
  2. request for modification of the topic or scope, with reason for request provided (e.g. overlap in a document already in progress), or
  3. recommendation that the document be pursued independently by the proposers (i.e. the topic is not deemed suitable to be an official ATA product).

Following approval by the GSC, the proposal will then be sent to the ATA Board of Directors (BOD) for their review and approval.

Work on the guideline/statement may only be initiated after BOD approval has been obtained. The GSC and BOD will work with the proposers of approved documents to help with selection of task force members, examination of competing interests, identifying a timeline, and providing advice regarding methodology.

Report on Progress

An annual update of the progress of the document is expected (download progress report form here).

Completed documents will be subject to final approval by the GSC and the BOD. Review by stakeholders, patient groups, and the ATA membership is also expected. Official statements and guidelines of the ATA will be subject to peer review by the journal THYROID®  before publication.
