How to check which process\/application is using a particular\u00a0port on Windows<\/h2>\n

Step 1 – Find the process id of the process which is using given port<\/h3>\n

Syntax<\/h4>\n

netstat -aon | findstr\u00a0 <port_number><\/strong><\/p>\n

-a Displays all connections and listening ports.<\/p>\n

-o Displays owning process Id associated with each connection.<\/p>\n

-n Displays addresses and port numbers in numerical forms<\/p>\n

Example<\/h4>\n

On my system,it displays following output.My tomcat is up and running on port 8080 within eclipse and I executed following command.<\/p>\n

netstat -aon | findstr\u00a0\u00a08080<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"port<\/a><\/p>\n

Here the last column is telling the process id of the process which is using port 8080.<\/p>\n

Explanation<\/h4>\n

netstat\u00a0-aon\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Will give you a list of process Ids which are using given port.<\/p>\n

findstr\u00a0 8080<\/strong><\/p>\n

findstr is functionally equivalent to grep command on Linux.From the output of netstat\u00a0,findstr will give the lines which have word 8080 in it.<\/p>\n

Step 2 –\u00a0 Find process\/application name which is using given port using process id found in the step 1<\/h3>\n

Syntax<\/h4>\n

tasklist | findstr <PID><\/strong><\/p>\n

This will give you the application name which is using that port.<\/p>\n

Example<\/h4>\n

On my system,I used following command to check which process belongs to process id 9260.<\/p>\n

tasklist | findstr 9260<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"port<\/a><\/p>\n

Here javaw.exe is the process which is using port 8080.<\/p>\n

How to check which port is being used by a particular process\/application on Windows<\/h2>\n

Step 1 – Find process id of the process which is using process with given name.<\/h3>\n

Syntax<\/h4>\n

tasklist | findstr\u00a0 <application_name\/process_name><\/strong><\/p>\n

Example<\/h4>\n

On my system,I executed following command to find first process id of process with name javaw.exe<\/p>\n

tasklist | findstr javaw.exe<\/b><\/p>\n

\"port<\/a><\/p>\n

Here 9260 is the process id of the process javaw.exe.<\/p>\n

Step 2\u00a0 – Find port which is being used by the process id found in step 1.<\/b><\/h3>\n

Syntax<\/h4>\n

netstat -aon | findstr <PID><\/b><\/p>\n

Example<\/h4>\n

On my system,to find which port is being used by process with process id 9260.<\/p>\n

netstat -aon | findstr 9260<\/b><\/p>\n

\"port<\/a><\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

As you can see in above output that process 9260 is using port 8080.<\/p>\n
