The following is the syntax of the <code>TRIM()<\/code> function:<\/p>\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\" aria-describedby=\"shcb-language-1\" data-shcb-language-name=\"SQL (Structured Query Language)\" data-shcb-language-slug=\"sql\"><span><code class=\"hljs language-sql\">TRIM(&#91;removed_characters FROM] input_string)\n<\/code><\/span><small class=\"shcb-language\" id=\"shcb-language-1\"><span class=\"shcb-language__label\">Code language:<\/span> <span class=\"shcb-language__name\">SQL (Structured Query Language)<\/span> <span class=\"shcb-language__paren\">(<\/span><span class=\"shcb-language__slug\">sql<\/span><span class=\"shcb-language__paren\">)<\/span><\/small><\/pre>\n\n\n<p>In this syntax:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The <code>removed_characters<\/code> is a literal, variable, or table column of any non-LOB character type (<code><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqlservertutorial.net\/sql-server-basics\/sql-server-nvarchar\/\">NVARCHAR<\/a><\/code>, <code><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqlservertutorial.net\/sql-server-basics\/sql-server-varchar\/\">VARCHAR<\/a><\/code>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqlservertutorial.net\/sql-server-basics\/sql-server-nchar\/\"><code>NCHAR<\/code><\/a>, or <code><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqlservertutorial.net\/sql-server-string-functions\/sql-server-char-function\/\">CHAR<\/a><\/code>) that contains characters which will be removed. Note that the <code>NVARCHAR(MAX)<\/code> and <code>VARCHAR(MAX)<\/code> types are not allowed. The <code>remove_characters<\/code> argument is optional. If you skip it, the <code>TRIM()<\/code> function will return a string after truncating all leading and trailing spaces from the <code>input_string<\/code>.&nbsp;It has the same effect as using both <code><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqlservertutorial.net\/sql-server-string-functions\/sql-server-ltrim-function\/\">LTRIM()<\/a><\/code> and <code><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqlservertutorial.net\/sql-server-string-functions\/sql-server-rtrim-function\/\">RTRIM()<\/a><\/code> function:<code>RTRIM(LTRIM(input_string)<\/code>.<\/li><li>The <code>input_string<\/code> is an expression of any character type (<code>NVARCHAR<\/code>, <code>VARCHAR<\/code>, <code>NCHAR<\/code>, or <code>CHAR<\/code>) where the&nbsp;<code>removed_characters<\/code> should be removed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <code>TRIM()<\/code> function returns a string where the <code>removed_characters<\/code> are removed from both left and right sides.
