What is Blood Donation?


Blood donation is voluntary service when a person either voluntarily or in emergency cases donate their blood to save someones life.

In India every year at least need of 10 million units of blood arises. If people having awareness about blood donation almost 90% blood problems can be solved.

Facts about blood donation :

A person having at least 18 years of age and at least 50 Kg weight. A normal person having at least five to six liters of blood. But if donor is not taken meals/ water properly, or donor doing any fasting or some reasons surely maximum within 90 days blood will replaced. So that it is safe to donate blood every three months. No special diet, rest or medicine is required after blood donation. But Donor needs some water, or fruit drinks to replace by that blood (300 ml).

SOME EXAMPLES OF AVERAGE BLOOD USE IN GENERAL POPULATION-

others, 17%

road accidents, 10%

people > than 65 yrs, 43%

burn victim, 5%

Cancer patients, 25%

Not eligible to donate blood:

The Blood donor should not have taken any type of medicines or alcoholic drinks within the last 48 hours. The Blood donor should not have AIDS and contacted jaundice or rabies in the last 3 years. Hemoglobin shall not be less than 12.5 grams. Normal Temperature and Blood Pulse of the donor shall be normal 120/80.
