Common uses of input and output devices
A burglar alarm
Input devices : Sensors, a keypad, remote control
Output devices : Buzzer, bells, light
Sensors constantly monitor the conditions within a
building, feeding back data to a microprocessor. If the
sensor detects the movement or warm body of a
potential burglar moving through the building them the
alarm is activated by the microprocessor, triggering

Shopping using a debit or credit card
Input devices : Barcode scanner, keypad, chip and PIN
or magnetic stripe reader.
Output devices :Receipt printer, till LCD display,
buzzer
When you buy an item in most shops, a barcode
scanner input the items product code into the
computer system. The product in the stock database
and the price is shown on the till display. A card
payment is made using the chip and PIN system or a
magnetic strip reader, and money is transferred
electronically from the stock database and a receipt is
printed.
A school registration system
Input devices : Keyboard , digital camera, mouse
Output devices : Inkjet printer, CRT, TFT display
New student starting at a school have their photo taken with a
digital camera and personal details about them are input into
the schools management system using a mouse and
keyboard, As well as each students name, address and family
information the school database will also include their
timetable, their teachers name and exam information . This
information can then be processed to produce a variety of
outputs from personalised letter for the home to printing a
specific class group of photographs for a new teacher, or
following a student test result on screen from one year to the
next
