The document discusses various methods of Internet connectivity, including WiFi, dial-up, broadband, DSL, cable, satellite, and fiber optics. It explains the differences between these technologies, particularly focusing on their speed, bandwidth, and transmission methods. Additionally, it covers the Domain Name System (DNS), which translates domain names into IP addresses, functioning similarly to a phone book for the Internet.

Internet
Connectivity
Ahmed Eltom
 Internet

Connectivity describes the

various methods that
technology, uses to transmit
and receive information and
signals between two or more
points over the internet
 Some of the most widely used
Internet connections are
described below.
 WiFi Hotspots. ...
 Dial-Up. ...
 Broadband. ...
 DSL. ...
 Cable. ...
 Satellite. ...
 Fiber Optics
Dial-up Internet access
 Dial-up Internet access is a form of
Internet access that uses the
facilities of the (PSTN)public
switched telephone network to
establish a connection to an
Internet service provider by dialing
a telephone number on a
conventional telephone line
Broadband
 Broadband is the wide-
bandwidth data transmission
that transports multiple signals
at a wide range of frequencies
and wireless Internet traffic
types, which enables messages
to be sent simultaneously and
is used in fast internet
connections
DSL
 Digital subscriber line
 Description
 Digital subscriber line is a family of

technologies that are used to transmit

digital data over telephone lines.
 In telecommunications marketing, the

term DSL is widely understood to mean

asymmetric digital subscriber line, the
most commonly installed DSL
technology, for Internet access
DSL vs Cables
 DSL and cable internet are
different in how they deliver
internet to your home. DSL
internet runs through standard
phone lines that are wired into
your home. Cable goes
through the cable lines. There
is more bandwidth with cable,
so cable is usually faster.
Satellite internet
 Satellite internet is wireless
internet beamed down
from satellites orbiting
the Earth.
 Internet access provided

through communication
satellites. This technology
enables users to access the
Internet regardless of their
geographical location
Fiber Optics
 Fiber-opticinternet,
commonly called fiber
internet or simply “fiber,”
is a broadband connection
that can reach speeds of up
to 940 Megabits per second
(Mbps), with low lag time.
The technology uses fiber-
optic cable, which
amazingly can send data as
fast as about 70% the speed
 Fiber optics use glass
for transmission media
which make fiber optics
is so fast and secure
but its so delicate and
could be broken if
exposed to heavy
pressure and its hard to
be maintained and
welded.
DNS
 The Domain Name System is a
hierarchical and distributed
naming system for computers,
services, and other resources in
the Internet or other Internet
Protocol networks.
Network domain
Anetwork domain is an
administrative grouping of multiple
private computer networks or local
hosts within the same infrastructure.
Domains can be identified using a
domain name; domains which need
to be accessible from the public
Internet can be assigned a globally
unique name within the Domain
Name System
 DNS, or the Domain Name System,
translates human readable domain
names (for example,
www.amazon.com) to machine
readable IP addresses.

 The Google domain name system

has two primary IP addresses:
8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. These are
the domain name system servers for
Google and essentially Google's
public IPs.
 The Internet's DNS system works
much like a phone book by managing
the mapping between names and
numbers.
 DNS servers translate requests for

names into IP addresses, controlling

which server an end user will reach
when they type a domain name into
their web browser.
