PROBLEM STATEMENT
“A study to evaluate the effectiveness of structured
teaching program on knowledge regarding role of
dietary supplements in prevention of heart attacks
among coronary artery disease patients admitted in
selected hospital Raipur (C.G.)”
OBJECTIVES
• To assess the pre-test knowledge regarding the role of dietary
supplements in prevention of heart attacks among coronary artery
disease (CAD) patients.
• To administer a structured teaching program on dietary supplements
in prevention of heart attacks among coronary artery disease patients
• To assess the post-test knowledge regarding the role of dietary
supplement in prevention among coronary artery disease patient.
• To evaluate the effectiveness of the structured teaching program on
knowledge regarding dietary supplement in prevention among
coronary artery disease patient.
• To find out the association between pre and post test knowledge.
HYPOTHESES
• H₁: There will be a significant association between pre test and post
test level of knowledge regarding dietary supplement in prevention
among coronary disease patient.
• H₀: There will be significant association between pre test knowledge
regarding dietary supplement in prevention among coronary artery
disease patient and this socio demographic variable.
OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS
• Evaluate: Refers to the process of systematically measuring and comparing the pre-test and
post-test knowledge scores of coronary artery disease (CAD) patients regarding the role of
dietary supplements in preventing heart attacks, in order to determine the effectiveness of the
structured teaching program.
• Effectiveness: Refers to the extent to which the structured teaching program improves the
knowledge of CAD patients.
• Structured Teaching Program: A systematically designed educational intervention providing
information about dietary supplements and their role in preventing heart attacks.
• Knowledge: Awareness or understanding of dietary supplements as measured by a structured
knowledge questionnaire.
• Dietary Supplements: Products such as vitamins, minerals, omega-3 fatty acids, or antioxidants
used in addition to the normal diet to promote heart health.
• Coronary Artery Disease Patients: Individuals diagnosed with CAD and admitted to a selected
hospital for treatment or follow-up.
OPERATIONAL DEFINITION
• Effectiveness: - In this study effectiveness refers to the significant gain in knowledge as
determined by significant difference in mean pretest and mean posttest scores.
• Structured teaching programme:- It refers to teaching programme systematically prepared
and conduct by researcher on knowledge regarding knowledge regarding cardiac
rehabilitation.
• Knowledge: - Correct responses of the post myocardial infarction patients to the
knowledge items regarding cardiac rehabilitation in the self structured questionnaire.
• Cardiac rehabilitation:- Cardiac rehabilitation refers to that helps to improve the health
and return back to normal life activity of post myocardial infarction patients. In this study
cardiac rehabilitation includes that, physical rehabilitation, psychological rehabilitation,
vocational rehabilitation, sexual rehabilitation.
• Post myocardial infarction patients :-In this study post myocardial infarction patients refers
to patients who are admitted in the cardiac hospital and diagnosed as myocardial infarction
( include the patients receiving with medication treatment & invasive procedures).
DELIMITATIONS
• The study is limited to coronary artery disease patients
admitted in a selected hospital.
• Only patients who are willing to participate and are
available during the data collection period will be
included.
• The study does not assess the long-term retention or
behavioral change following the intervention.

• SECTION – D
• ASSOCIATION OF KNOWLEDGE WITH DEMOGRAPHIC
VARIABLES
• TABLE 5: CHI-SQUARE TEST SHOWING ASSOCIATION
BETWEEN PRE-TEST KNOWLEDGE AND SELECTED
DEMOGRAPHIC VARIABLES
TABLE 5: CHI-SQUARE TEST SHOWING ASSOCIATION BETWEEN
PRE TEST KNOWLEDGE AND SELECTED DEMOGRAPHIC
VARIABLES
• Table 5 reveals that there is significant association between pre-test
knowledge regarding dietary supplements among coronary artery
disease patients and their selected socio-demographic variables.
There was significant association found between Education (χ² = 10.62
> 9.49) at 0.05 level of significance.
While no significant association was found between Age (χ² = 6.28 <
7.81), Gender (χ² = 2.12 < 5.99), Marital status (χ² = 3.45 < 7.81),
Occupation (χ² = 4.98 < 9.49), Residence (χ² = 2.76 < 5.99), Duration of
CAD (χ² = 6.88 < 7.81), Dietary pattern (χ² = 1.96 < 3.84) at 0.05 level of
significance.
Hence, hypothesis H₁ is accepted with regard to education, while for
other demographic variables hypothesis is rejected.

• SUMMARY
• This chapter dealt with the analysis and interpretation of
data collected to evaluate the effectiveness of the Structured
Teaching Program (STP) on knowledge regarding the role of
dietary supplements in the prevention of heart attacks
among coronary artery disease (CAD) patients admitted in a
selected hospital, Raipur (C.G.). Both descriptive and
inferential statistics were used to analyze the data.
