Geography Investigation

The document presents a geographical investigation on the impact of human activities on water quality at the Alexandra Canal, focusing on factors such as turbidity and dissolved oxygen levels. Field observations indicate pollution from litter and oil spills, leading to a conclusion that the canal water is significantly affected by human actions. An action plan is proposed to improve water quality, waste management, and safety measures in the area.

Guiding and Inquiry questions

Inquiry question:
How do human activities affect the water quality
at the Alexandra canal?
Guiding Question:

Canal?
2. How does the location affect the water quality
at Alexandra canal?
3. Why do human activities impact water quality
at Alexandra canal?

Turbidity

-Turbidity level/JTU measures how clear the

water is
-Water with 20-40(JTU) are able to support
aquatic water the best.
Dissolved Oxygen
-Dissolved Oxygen is the amount of oxygen gas that
has dissolved into a given amount of water
-The unit of measurement for the dissolved oxygen is
parts per million (ppm) or milligrams per litre
(mg/l)

splatters floating on the surface of the water, fish
, terrapin, dried up leaves, styrofoam cup ,
bottle , plastic.

-What we heard/smelled: Rain,

Conclusion
General statement on overall -The canal water is being

Action plan
Action Plan

Target Consider:
Based on your findings, what aspect(s) of the
Area(s) environment or people’s quality of life need(s)
for.. improvement.
-Water quality.
Canals need clean and healthy water for both
aquatic life and safe usage. Improvements can
be made through effective wastewater
treatment, less pollution from industry and
agriculture, and responsible waste management.
Action Plan

Target Consider:
Based on your findings, what aspect(s) of the
Area(s) environment or people’s quality of life need(s)
for.. improvement.
-Waste Management
Adequate waste management practices are
essential to maintain cleanliness and prevent
pollution in canal areas, through proper waste
disposal systems, recycling, and raising
awareness.
Action Plan

Target Consider:
Based on your findings, what aspect(s) of the
Area(s) environment or people’s quality of life need(s)
for.. improvement.
-Safety and Security:
Enhancing safety measures along canals is
essential for preventing accidents and ensuring
the well-being of people living nearby.
Action Plan
Consider :
Acti -What steps will you take to bring about the
improvement(s) that you identified?
on - What resources (e.g manpower, materials) will you
need?
pla -Who will you present your action plan to?
-When will you present your action plan?

n ~ Fine the people who pollute the water

~ Police
~NEA
~As soon as possible to prevent the water from
getting so polluted that animals cannot swim in
them
Action Plan
Consider:
Justi -Why will the steps that you have proposed help to bring
about the improvement(s)?
fica -Why will the resources that you have identified help you
to carry out your action plan?
tion -Why have you identified this particular
person/organization to present your action plan

s ~Let the animals living there not get sick

~Improve the living conditions of the park for the
animals
