Types of Functions
Evaluating a Function
Evaluating function is the process of
determining the value of the function at the
number assigned to a given variable. Just like
in evaluating algebraic expressions, to
evaluate function you just need to a.) replace
each letter in the expression with the assigned
value and b.) perform the operations in the
expression using the correct order of
operations.

Let’s solve this problem!!!
• Sophia, a sales manager, received a
monthly salary of Php 25,595 plus a
commission of Php 3, 500.
[Link] a function of f(x) where x represents
the total salary she received last August
30, 2021.
2. How much was the total salary she
already received for the past 3 months
with the given commission last August?
TRY THIS!!!
Apply to Real!!!

1. Mark charges ₱100.00 for an encoding work. In addition, he

charges ₱5.00 per page of printed output.

a. Find a function f(x) where x represents the number page of

printed out.
Apply to Real!!!
2. Under certain circumstances, a virus spreads
according to the function:

Where where P(t) is the proportion of the population

that has the virus (t) days after the acquisition of
virus started. Find p(4) and p(10), then interpret the
results.

Operations
of Functions
Question:
What are the
four fundamental
operations?
Answer:
• 1. Addition
• 2. Subtraction
• 3. Multiplication
• 4. Division
Operations on Functions
Addition:
(𝒇 + 𝒈)(𝒙) = 𝒇(𝒙)+ 𝒈(𝒙)
• 1.

(𝒇 - 𝒈)(𝒙) = 𝒇(𝒙) - 𝒈(𝒙)
2. Subtraction:
(𝒇𝒈)(𝒙) = 𝒇(𝒙) * 𝒈(𝒙)
3. Multiplication:
(𝒇 / 𝒈)(𝒙) = 𝒇(𝒙) / 𝒈(𝒙)
4. Division:

Composition of Function:

(𝑓𝑜𝑔)(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑔(𝑥))
Find:

(𝑓𝑜𝑔)(𝑥) =
