Reviving Classical Music Appreciation

Classical music is in danger of becoming forgotten due to new forms of entertainment taking its place. Younger generations are no longer being exposed to classical music through learning instruments in school or attending concerts like in the past. However, rebuilding appreciation for classical music among youth could help solve this problem. Exposing children to classical music at a young age through playing it for them, teaching them instruments, and taking them to concerts may help pass the tradition to new generations.

Pride and Prejudice

In this movie, the main character Elizabeth (Keira Knightly) is asked to perform a piano piece for entertainment during tea. Earlier in the movie, it is made clear that all girls are expected to be proficient at the piano. All girls are expected to know how to play piano, as well as cook, sew, and clean.

Present
How many kids play an instrument now? How many of you played an instrument when you were younger? How many play violin? Piano? How many of you know this song?

My Point
In earlier times, most everyone in the population knew how to play. Now only a select few play or are familiar with classical music.

Why??
New forms of entertainment

Why?
Age of audience Not being replenished

Why?
Young kids arent brought up learning an instrument or listening and learning to appreciate the music.

Why?
Classical music has become more of a higher class thing to do. You dress up if you attend concerts, and tickets are expensive.

Solution
Play music for younger kids Let them experience music at a young age Teach them Take them to concerts Let them learn to play
