REVIEW:
What was our last
topic all about?
What are the
causes of Species
extinction?
In general terms, species become
extinct for the following reasons:
Demographic and genetic
phenomena. First of all, species with
small populations face a greater risk
of extinction.
Destruction of wild habitats.
Taking animals for profit.
Climate change and Pollution.
Hunting and illegal trafficking.
ACTIVITY #1
“MY COLOR”
(5 minutes)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Students will be divided
into 3 groups based on the
color they picked.
Each group will present
their yell in class.
Every group will answer the
question in activity sheet.
QUESTIONS:
What does a
plant need to
survive?
QUESTIONS:
How plant helps the
environment? Cite at
least 5 roles of
plants in our
environment.
QUESTIONS:
What does a plant need to
survive?
-Plants need air, light, warmth, water and nutrients to
be healthy. If they are healthy, they can continue
making their own food through photosynthesis.
-All plants need space to grow, the right temperature,
light, water, air, nutrients, and time.
-Plants can do an amazing thing: They make their own
food using just water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide.
QUESTIONS:
How plant helps the
environment? Cite at least 5
roles of plants in our
environment?
-They provide us with a variety of things to fulfil our
daily requirements, including food to eat, air to breathe,
clothes to cover our body, wood, medicine, shelter, and
many products for human benefit. Plants are the
primary producers, and all other living organisms on this
planet depend on plants.
ACTIVITY #2
“PHOTO-SYNTHESIS”
(5 minutes)
INSTRUCTIONS:
The Teacher has 3 envelops, these
envelops contains pieces of pictures
that is being cut and mixed letters.
The students will arrange this
pieces of picture to form a complete
image and arrange the mixed
letters to create a word.
After the activity, the
students paste their work
on the board.
The first group who can
finish the task will receive
an additional 10 points.
QUESTIONS:
1.What can you see in the
picture?
2.How important the sun
light, water and air in plants?
3.Do you have any idea of our
topic for today?
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the session,
learners should be able to:
a. explain the process of
photosynthesis.
b. Explain the process of food
making in plants; and
c. sketch the process of
photosynthesis.

(PHOTOSYNTHESIS AND ITS PROCESS)
What is
Photosynthesi
s?
Photosynthesis is a chemical
reaction that takes place inside a
plant, producing food for the
plant to survive.
Photosynthesis happens in the
leaves of a plant.
The main function of
photosynthesis is to allow plants to
make their food by converting light
energy from the sun into chemical
energy. The manufactured food is
utilized for survival by plants and
other living things, including humans
and animals.
Plants turns water, sun
light and carbon
dioxide into oxygen
and food , and a simple
sugar called glucose.
Do you ever
wonder how this
process takes
place?
Carbon dioxide,
water and light are
all needed for
photosynthesis to
take place.
What are the
3 things that are
needed for
Photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide
water
light.
1.Carbon dioxide enters
through the stomata on
the underside of the
leaf.
2.Water is absorbed by
the root hair cells and is
transported to the leaf
by the xylem vessels.
3. Sunlight provides the
energy needed for
photosynthesis to take
place. In this process
carbon dioxide and water
are converted into oxygen
(a waste product that is
released back into the air)
and glucose (the source of
energy for the plant).
What are the
different processes
of Photosynthesis?
-The process of
photosynthesis Plants need
food to respire, grow and
reproduce. Unlike animals,
plants are able to make
their own food by the
process of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis takes
place in the part of the
plant cell containing
chloroplasts, these are
small structures that
contain chlorophyll.
- For photosynthesis to take
place, plants need to take
in carbon dioxide (from the
air), water (from the
ground) and light (usually
from the sun).
Here is the word and
chemical equation for
Photosynthesis:
What is Xylem
and Phloem?
Xylem is the
specialized tissue of
vascular plants that
transports water and
nutrients from the
plant–soil interface to
stems and leaves, and
provides mechanical
support and storage.
Phloem is living
tissue,
responsible for
transporting food
and other organic
materials.
What is the
importance of
Photosynthesis?
-The energy we get from the food
we eat originally came from
plants, which absorbed energy
from the sun. Photosynthesis is
also important because of the
oxygen it produces. They recycle
the carbon dioxide we breathe
out and turn it back into oxygen
so that we never run out.
-Importance of photosynthesis are
that it plays a role in the carbon
cycle, provides oxygen and food to
humans and animals.
- It ensures that all living species
have access to oxygen in the
atmosphere.
-It keeps the ecosystem's
oxygen and carbon dioxide
levels in check.
-Plants are the source of
fossil fuels.
ACTIVITY #3
“DRAW THE PROCESS”
(10 minutes)
INSTRUCTIONS:
-Students will only give 10
minutes to perform the
activity.
-Each group will give a
marker and Cartolina paper.
-The students will draw or
sketch how the process of
Photosynthesis takes place.
INSTRUCTIONS:
-Students can used their
phones/ gadgets to
research the process of
how photosynthesis takes
place. They can use crayons
and other materials to
utilize and make their work
more colorful and

QUESTIONS:
1.What is the main source of
energy for photosynthesis?
2.Why do plants need light
energy, water and carbon
dioxide
3.Why is photosynthesis
important to ecosystems?
What is the main
source of energy
for
photosynthesis?
SUNLIGHT
-Photosynthesis is the process through
which plants convert sunlight, water, and
carbon dioxide into oxygen and sugar
energy. The term "photosynthesis" thus
refers to synthesis from light. So it is clear
that the energy for photosynthesis comes
from light.
Why do plants need
light energy, water
and carbon dioxide
-Plants use a process called photosynthesis
to make food. During photosynthesis, plants
trap light energy with their leaves. Plants
use the energy of the sun to change water
and carbon dioxide into a sugar called
glucose.
- Plants use sunlight, carbon dioxide from
the atmosphere, and water for
photosynthesis to produce oxygen and
carbohydrates that plants use for energy
and growth.
Why is
photosynthesis
important to
ecosystems?
-They use the process of
photosynthesis to transform water,
sunlight, and carbon dioxide into
oxygen, and simple sugars that the
plant uses as fuel. These primary
producers form the base of an
ecosystem and fuel the next trophic
levels. Without this process, life on
Earth as we know it would not be
possible.
