SAFETY
INTRODUCTION
GENERAL SAFETY
 Safety is the state of being safe, the condition of being
protected from harm or other non-desirable outcomes.
Safety can also refer to the control of recognized
hazards in order to achieve an acceptable level of risk.
Type of PPE’s
 Eyes Protection(Safety goggle)- Must have side shields
or a one-piece lens that wraps around the temple.
 Hand Protection(Safety gloves)- Working with hot
liquids and equipment, open flames, water bath, oil bath.
 Body protection(Boiler suit)- Boiler suit consists of a
single piece of clothing that combines trousers and a
jacket. You wear it over your clothes in order to protect
them from dirt and heat while you are working.
 Respiratory protection(Breathing apparatus)- Device
worn by rescue workers, firefighters, and others to provide
breathable air in an immediately dangerous to life or health
atmosphere.
 Hearing protection(Earplugs& Earmuffs)- People
should wear a hearing protector if the noise or sound level
at the workplace exceeds 85 decibels. Hearing
protectors reduce the noise exposure level and the risk
of hearing loss.

Earplugs Earmuffs
• Head protection(Safety helmet)- A safety
helmet protects your brain and head injury when you fall. It has
a plastic shell on the outside and foam inside.
 Feet protection(Safety shoes)-
Protective, safety footwear is essential to ensure safe and
healthy feet. Steel toe boots and shoes protect your feet,
help prevent injuries to them, and reduce the severity of
injuries that may occur in the workplace.
Maintenance of PPE’s
 All PPE must be stored in a clean and sanitary condition
ready for use. Storage should be adequate to protect
the PPE from contamination, loss, damage, water or
sunlight. Proper storage often requires a dry and clean
place.
Personal responsibility
and correct procedure
Personal responsibility- Personal responsibility is the
idea that human beings choose, instigate, or otherwise
cause their own actions.
Knowledge - As safety leaders are aware, nothing can
be as dangerous as a little knowledge. Combined with a
higher-than-average risk tolerance, this is frequently
where we see incidents / near misses. However, as that
knowledge increases, the safety and efficacy of
operations increase.
Competence - The organization is responsible for
aligning competencies with its needs and aspirations,
but the onus of responsibility for developing that
competence falls on the individual.
Personal responsibility
and correct procedure
Resourcefulness - Resourcefulness is the big
part of this aspect, not just in terms of knowing
how to deal with situations when uncertainty is
involved, but also in the ability to track down
information.
Determination - This is an area that I think
people who have many interests tend to short cut
themselves, and in doing so lack the consistency
necessary for their co-workers to see them as
dependable.
Correct procedure
In workplace- (i)Stay completely alert on the job.

(ii) Walk, do not run, in the work areas.

(iii)Avoid back strain by lifting properly.

In machine - Never use any machine you have not

been trained to use.
In lifting- (i)Keep your back straight, but not
necessarily vertical. Have a sure grip on the
object.
(ii)Keep the object close to your body.
(iii)Bend your knees before lifting.
(iv)Lift with your legs, not with your back.
Sign of risk
Slips and Trips -

Asbestos -
Working at Height -

Confined space -

Basic Facemask - A facemask can minimize the
risk of exposure to simple biological contaminants,
dust, debris, and other harmful impurities in the
air.
Filtered Respirator - If there are known
impurities that can cause serious damage or
illness, having a filter on the respirator is
important.
Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus - In
situations where the air is extremely toxic, a self-
contained breathing apparatus allows the
employee to bring a supply of fresh air with them.

Protective Clothing - The most common type of skin
protection equipment is general protective clothing.
Something as simple as a boiler suit protects them
from heat and dirt while you are working.
Plastic Gloves - Plastic or latex gloves are among the
most common types of skin protection equipment.
They can keep a wide range of hazards away,
including biological and chemical solutions.
Cut-Resistant Gloves - Employees who work with
sharp objects should wear cut-resistant gloves. These
gloves are made of special materials that prevent to
the cuts from the sharp object.

Heat-Resistant Clothing - When working with fire
or other high temperature hazards, employees should
wear heat-resistant clothing.
Face Shields - Face shields reduce the risk of having
something splash up into the face, causing damage.
Whether working with hot items.
Safety Helmet – Safety helmet are a great way to
keep someone's head safe when working in an area
where something could fall on it.
Safety goggle - Safety goggles provide a strong layer
of protection to the eyes. This is good for preventing
objects from flying into the eyes such as sawdust,
stones, chemical splashes and shards of glass.

Ear Plugs - Ear plugs are easy to use and
provide a fair amount of protection by preventing
loud noises from entering the ear at all.
Ear Muffs - Ear muffs go over the entire ear, and
when worn properly, can provide a significant
amount of noise reduction.
Material Handling Safety
Protect Yourself
Size up the Load
Lift It Right
Avoid oversized Loads
Use ladder or stool in High Loads
Use your legs to power the lift.
