Identify used memory space and free memory space in disks

 When you install apps or download images to your PC, they take up
space in your hard drive.
 You can check the amount of free space on your to make sure the
computer will not run out of room.
 This will show you how to do it in Windows 10.
 It just takes a few steps.
 Open File Explorer.
 You can use the keyboard shortcut, Windows key + E or
tap the folder icon in the taskbar.
 Tap or click This PC from the left pane.
 You can see the amount of free space on your hard disk
under the Windows (C:) drive
 That's it! The progress bar gives you a visual guide on how much
you've used up already.
 Underneath that, you see the numbers. For example, my Surface
Pro 3 currently has 167 GB free out of 232 GB.
 If you need extra storage, you can store your media on external
USB drives, or even microSD cards if your device has a slot
available like the Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3.
 You can grab a 500GB,1TB or 2TB portable external USB hard
drive.
File

 A file consists of a collection of data.

 The operating system can store files in hard drives,
optical drives or other storage devices.
 The user can perform operations such as open, read,
modify and close on files.
 There are various types of files.
 An image from the camera or the phone copied to the
computer can be of a JPG or PNG format.
 There are also mp3, mp4 format video files.
 There are document files created in word processing software
such as MS Word.
 The text documents created with Notepad are txt files.
 Those files hold plain text information.
 Furthermore, some files are compressed into folders but they are still
considered as files.
 One example is ZIP file. It is a folder with many related files and folders
but it is considered as a single file.
 It is also possible to convert a file from one format to another.
 For example, a doc format file can be converted into a pdf file.
 Overall, all the above types of files help to store information at one
particular location.
Folder
 A folder stores files and folders. It is also called a directory.
 If all the files are in the same place, it will be difficult to identify a
specific file.
 Therefore, folders help to arrange files.
 For example, the user can store written documents in one folder and store
audio files in another folder.
 In other words, folders help to organize and separate files.
 The user can perform operations such as create, copy, and delete folders.
Difference Between File and Folder
 Definition: A file is a computer resource for recording data discretely in
a computer storage device. A folder is a directory that contains other files
and folders.
 Functionality: A file works as a container to store data. On the other hand, a
folder works as a container to store related files and folders.
 Extension: A file has an extension. The extension can be three to four
characters long. A folder does not have an extension.
 Operations: The user can create, read, modify, delete, and rename files.
Furthermore, he can print, email the content of a file. On the other hand, the
user can create, rename, delete and copy a folder.
 Copying: The user can copy data from one file to another. The user
can copy one folder to another folder.
 Conclusion: There are various types of computer files. These files can
store text, images, computer programs, video, audio and a variety of
other data depending on their file type.
 The difference between file and folder is that a file stores data while a
folder stores files and folders.
System File

 A system file is a critical document in a computer system

without which it cannot operate correctly or at all.
 These files usually come as part of the operating system
which it uses for its core operations or it may be part of a
device driver or other type of resource.
 A system file is a crucial part of the system, hence the name.
 System files are usually essential to an operating system or driver which is
why they are protected from accidental deletion or even intentional deletion
through the use of permissions.
 This is usually done by flagging a file with a system attribute. Specific
examples of system files may have the .sys extension, especially in Windows.
 These files are also usually located in specific folders that identify it to be a
system folder.
 For Windows, these include the System32 folder, the System Suitcase and
files on the sys location on the Mac OS, and the root folder of the Linux file
system called sysfs.

safely deleted.
 Removing unnecessary files, including temporary files, can help to speed
up and improve the performance of the hard drive and computer.
 Running Disk Cleanup at least once a month is an excellent maintenance
task and frequency.
 Disk Cleanup can delete temporary Internet files
(associated with Internet Explorer), downloaded program
files, and offline webpages.

delete temporary files, and delete thumbnails.

you want to clean up.

clean up.

taking up on the hard drive.

Compress old files (if seen).

recovers is worth.

process.
