Basic Aspects of Cell Structure
and Function
Cell is the smallest living system
inside living organism.
Cell is discovered by Robert Hooke
(cork cell).
Many tiny organs inside cells called
organelles that enclosed in their own
membrane.
It will have a differentiation process
makes each cell have different
function.
Cells are grouped into tissues(e.g:heart
muscle), then organs (e.g: heart), then

organ systems (e.g:cardiovascular sytem) 3
PLANT CELL
Plant cell consists of:
a) sap vacuole(‘big ellipse’)
b) chloroplast (‘smaller ellipse’)
c) mitochondria (‘sausage like’)
d) cell wall (‘outer layer’)
e) cell membrane(‘inside layer)
f) cytoplasm (‘liquid inside cell’)
g) nucleus (‘biggest ellipse’)
h) ribosome (‘small balls’)

Functions of Plant Organelles
Parts Function
Cell wall protect the cell and to make the cell firm
Cytoplasm provide substances needed by the cell , such
as certain ingredients of proteins
Mitochondria the generator of cell where it generates
energy for cell
Chloroplast consists of chlorophyll (green pigmen) that
helps photosynthesis
Nucleus controls all activities inside the cell
Cell controls all inlets and outlets of the cell
membrane
Ribosome produce proteins needed by cell
Vacuole store waste chemicals or proteins

ANIMAL CELL
Plant cell consists of:
a) vacuoles(‘big ellipse’)
b) lysosomes(‘medium balls’)
c) mitochondria (‘sausage like’)
d) cell membrane(‘inside layer)
e) cytoplasm (‘liquid inside cell’)
f) nucleus (‘biggest ellipse’)
g) ribosome (‘smallest balls’)

Cells worksheet 2
1. Put colours on the organelles of the plant cell
and
animal cell that you have already made:
Nucleus: black Cell membrane:
purple
Ribosome: dark blue Cell wall: brown
Chloroplast: green
Lysosome: pink
Cytoplasm: white
Vacuole: light blue
Mitochondrion: red
2. List down the differences (at least 4) between 13
List of differences
Plant vacuole is much bigger
Plant cell has only one vacuole,
animal cell has some
Animal cell has lysosome, Plant cell
don’t.
Plant cell has cell wall and
chloroplast, Animal don’t.
Animal cell is flexible, plant cell is
rigid

Prokaryotic cell
Eukaryotic cell cells that has nucleus
such as plant
or animal [Link] cell are cells
with no Parts Function
nucleus. Example: Bacteria,
Flagella amoeba.
digest substances
Cytoplasm provide substances needed
by the cell
Pili to capture food
Capsule protection of the cell
Cell wall keep the shape of the cell

Cells PROJECT:
Making 3d cell model
You are going to work in group of
maximum 4 students in producing a type
of cell model.

Steps:
[Link] the microscope
with two hands.
2. Adjust the coarse focus
so objective lens is far
from stage.
2. Put the slides carefully,
secure it at its place.
3. Adjust the lens and the
position of slide using
knob carefully, don’t hit
the slides.

4. Take out the slides
Experiment of Cell
1. Adjust the coarse focus so
objective lens is far from
stage.
2. Put the prepared slide
carefully on the stage.
3. Adjust the lens and the
mirror carefully until you can
see it clearly.
4. Draw the object that you see
at least as big as half of the
page.
