Why he wanted to create Gucci
Guccio Gucci was driven by a desire to bring together the
refined style he observed in English aristocrats with the
expert craftsmanship of Italian artisans. While working at
the Savoy Hotel in London, he was fascinated by the
luxurious luggage carried by wealthy guests, which
sparked his vision of creating elegant, durable, and high-
quality leather goods. Returning to Florence, he set out to
establish a brand that would represent sophistication,
heritage, and exceptional design—leading to the birth of
Gucci in 1921.

Gucci’s formal education, his early career began
at the Savoy Hotel in London, where he worked
