Handling Social Media:

Be the Boss, Not the Addict!

For Students Ages 13+
What is Social Media?

• Apps and websites where you share, chat,

post, or scroll
• Examples: Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat,
YouTube, WhatsApp
• How many hours do you think you spend on
social media daily?
What’s Good About Social Media?

• You stay connected with friends

• Learn new things (DIYs, study hacks)
• Express creativity (videos, art, memes)
• Discover career options (photography, gaming,
etc.)
When Social Media Becomes a
Problem

• You feel 'not good enough' after seeing others’

lives
• You can’t focus on studies
• You argue or feel stressed over comments or
likes
• You keep scrolling… and scrolling… and
scrolling…
Red Flags 🚩

• Checking phone first thing in the morning

• Feeling sad or angry after using social media
• Arguing over replies or reactions
• Losing sleep to stay online
Smart Ways to Handle It

• Set daily limits (use 'screen time' settings)

• Follow people who inspire or educate
• Don’t compare your real life to others’
highlight reels
• Take a 1-day social media detox every week
• Keep phones away during meals, study, and
sleep
Real Life > Online Life

• Your real friends are not just 'followers'

• Your worth is not in likes or views
• What you post = what people remember
about you
• The internet never forgets. Post what you’d be
proud of even 10 years later.
Values & Manners Matter

• Don’t spread hate, rumors, or bullying

• Think: Is it kind? Is it true? Is it necessary?
• Respect others’ privacy
• Even our typing fingers are answerable to
Allah.
Final Message

• Use social media to grow, not to scroll your life

away.
• Be creators, not just consumers.
• Balance is the key!
