Symbolic Interactionism

Symbolic Interactionism is a sociological theory that explores how individuals interact through symbols like language and gestures, emphasizing the role of communication in developing the self. Founded by George Herbert Mead and later named by Herbert Blumer, the theory posits that meanings arise from social interactions and can evolve over time. It highlights the importance of symbols in establishing meanings and shaping individual self-concepts within social contexts.
