KALINGAIN AKO SA PAGBABASA


(KAP)
Teaching reading comprehension to non-readers and frustration level readers today is different
from the past. Teachers need to focus on extensive comprehension instruction with all students,
not just successful readers.
One of the project,Talipusngo Elementary School focus is the Project Kalingain Ako sa Pagbasa
(KAP) which aims to strengthen the reading comprehension of the learners from grade 1 to grade
6. This project is the continuation of Project RETOM (Readers for Tomorrow).
In order to assess the learner’s level of reading comprehension, we conduct PHIL IRI Group Screening Test to
Grade 4 – 6, while the Grade 1 and 2 conduct CRLA and Bantay Basa. We gave them set of test according
to the level of each grade and after the checking and evaluation, all the learners below 14 score will
conduct remedial reading and the learners who got higher than 14 will continue the enhancement reading.

Paglingap Extending extra miles in remediation…

Reading coordinator and the teachers in every level conduct remediation 30 minutes before
and after class hour everyday to those learners under instructional and frustration level. This is to ensure
that every struggling learners will not leave behind and will understand what they have read.

EVALUATION RESULT

After the 5 months of remediation and intervention in reading for those pupils who
got score below 14
or under frustration, last January 2025, School Heads of Maragondon District II
validated the reading level of pupils. Some pupils of Talipusngo Elementary School
got high validation and other pupils remain on their level of reading while others still
cannot comprehenn what they read.
Teachers and Reading Coordinator was given technical assistant to improve the
strategy on how to gave remediation and intervention to pupils. They also gave

Teachers and pupils of Talipusngo Elementary School conducted
School Reading Program
In cooperation to the Reading month celebration, Talipusngo Elementary School,
headed by Mrs. Imelda G. Casaul, School Head of Talipusngo Elementary school, gave
orientation to parents about administering synchronous reading time in every classroom.
Each grade level performed 30 minutes reading time before the afternoon class started.

The said activities aimed to develop the reading ability of every student and to
encourage the readers the important of reading.

Talipusngo Elementary School once again introduced to pupils the ReaTom Program
(Readers of Tomorrow)(English) ang Project KAP (Kalingain Ako sa Pagbasa)(Filipino) to
strengthen the Reading Month Celebration.

One of the teacher of the said school, Mrs Mercy C. Mojica, kinder teacher, read a
short story to pupils during flag ceremony, followed by asking various question about the
story read to test the comprehension of pupils. Another presenter is Althea Althea Ellise M.
Alday, grade 5 pupils, who won 3rd place in Declmasyon at Maragondon District II, to share
her talents in expressing the right emotion in what she read.
