PARTITION WALL
Partition wall
A partition wall may be defined as a wall or division, provided for the purpose of dividing one
room or portion
of a room from anouther.
Partition walls may be built of bricks, studding, glass, or other such material.
Generally, the partition walls are designed as non-load bearing walls. But it can be load-bearing
walls. The load-bearing partition wall is designed in such a way that it can take the load which acts
on it.
The partition wall may be constructed on any floor, it may be the ground floor or upper
floor. It rests on a concrete floor or on beams spanning between main walls in the case of
the ground floor.
Partitions may be broadly divided into the following
two categories:
Those that are made of blocks, slabs and laid in suitable mortars.
Those that are made of boards or of sheet materials.
Requirements of an ideal partition wall
It should be as thin as possible.
It should be sound proof.
It should be light proof.
It should be easy in construction.
It should be economical.
It should provide adequate privacy.
Following are the 11 types of partition walls that are commonly used
in building construction:
Brick partitions.
Hollow clay block partitions.
Glass partitions.
Timber partitions.
Metal partitions.
Plasterboard partitions.
Straw-board partitions.
Wood wool slab partitions.
A.C. or G.I. sheet partitions.
Plastic board partitions.
Brick partition
The common brick partition walls are half brick thick. They may be made of plain brick work or
reinforced brick work or brick-nogged type.
Hollow And Clay Brick Partition Wall:-
Hollow solid brick blocks are specially designated for singular units of concrete. Hollow clay brick
blocks of size 30*20 cm with thickness shifted from 5 cm to 15 cm can even be utilized.
They don’t adjust their volume and are lighter in weight. These groups of the wall are light-
weight, stiff, cost-effective, durable, and fire-resistant.
Glass Partition Wall:-
They are transparent, light, and can be manufactured in distinct shapes, sizes, and
thickness. It gives reasonable security and sound protection to the building. Such walls are
built from glass sheet or hollow glass blocks, which will be analyzed underneath.
HOLLOW GLASS BRICK PARTION:-
a) It is built from hollow glass blocks.
b) Hollow glass blocks are precise glass units that are light and assembling with different
thicknesses, shapes, and sizes.
c) The size of hollow glass blocks, which is most generally utilized, is 14X14cm or 19X19cm
with a thickness of 10cm.
A.C OR G.I SHEET PARTION:-
Partition wall built from asbestos concrete sheeting or galvanized sheet fixed to wooden or
steel outline.
It is generally embraced in works of an impermanent character.
Such wall is conventional, light, more economical and generally rigid if suitably built.
Such Slab renders utilization delivers the partition wall more fireproof and causes great
warmth and sound protection properties.
WOOD-WOOL PARTITION:-
Wood wool includes tangled wood filaments, uncompacted, covered and bound along with
cement or plaster, and an unpleasant open surface that gives a magnificent key to
mortar.
It is satisfactory heat and sound insulator.
METAL LATH PARTITION WALL:-
A metal lath partition wall is slim, more vital, tough, long-lasting and impressively
fireproof.
Metal slat partitions are formed by setting 2cm or 2.5cm channels vertically (called studs)
and fixing a metal strip or lath to it on one side.
Plaster coating is applied to both sides of the metal.
On the off chance that a hallow partition is required, the metal strip is fixed to the
channels on both sides and afterward, plaster is applied.
