DEFINATION:
Sentence structure refers to the way words, phrases, and clauses are arranged to convey
meaning . It forms the foundation of clear communication in any language.
TYPES:
The four main types of sentence structures are:
Simple Sentence
Compound Sentence
Complex Sentence
Compound-Complex Sentence
Simple Sentence
DEFINATION:
A simple sentence contains only one independent clause.It expresses a complete thought
with a subject and a verb.
Example:
She sings.
(Subject: She, Verb: sings)
Compound Sentence
DEFINATION:
A compound sentence consists of two or more independent clauses connected by a
coordinating conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) or a semicolon.
• Example:
• I wanted to go to the park, but it started raining.
(Independent Clause 1: I wanted to go to the park, Independent Clause 2: it started raining)

Complex Sentence
DEFINATION:A complex sentence has one independent clause and at least one dependent
(subordinate) clause . Dependent clauses begin with subordinating conjunctions like although,
because, since, if, etc.
Example:
o Although it was raining, we went for a walk.
(Independent Clause: we went for a walk, Dependent Clause: Although it was raining)

Compound-Complex Sentence
DEFINATION:
A compound-complex sentence has two or more independent clauses and at least one
dependent clause.
Example:
•Although I was tired, I finished my homework, and I went to bed early.
(Independent Clause 1: I finished my homework, Independent Clause 2: I went to bed early, Dependent
Clause: Although I was tired)
