19. Kiran travels from A to B by car and returns from B to A by cycle in
7 hours. If he travels both ways by car he saves 3 hours. What is the
time taken to cover both ways by cycle?
A. 10 hours
B. 13 hours
C. 14 hours
D. 12 hours
EXPLANATION:
Let the time taken to cover from A to B in car and cycle be x hours and
y hours respectively.
x + y = 7 --- (1) ; 2x = 4 --- (2)
solving both the equations, we get y = 5
So, time taken to cover both ways by cycle = 2y hours = 10 hours.
20. Pavan travelled for 11 hours. He covered the first half of the
distance at 30 kmph and remaining half of the distance at 25 kmph. Find
the distance travelled by Pavan.
A. 240 km
B. 280 km
C. 260 km
D. 300 km
Let the distance travelled be x km.
Total time = (x/2)/30 + (x/2)/25 = 11
x/60 + x/50 = 11
=> (5x + 6x)/300 = 11
=> x = 300 km
THANK YOU..,
A person crosses a 600
m long street in 5
minutes. What is his
speed in km per hour?
An car covers a certain
distance at a speed of 240
kmph in 5 hours. To cover the
same distance in 1 hours, it
must travel at a speed of:
Explanation:
Distance = (240 x 5) = 1200 km.
Speed = Distance/Time
Speed = 1200/(5/3) km/hr.
[We can write 1 hours as 5/3 hours]
Required speed =1200 x5/3
= 720 km/hr
The ratio between the speeds
of two trains is 7 : 8. If the
second train runs 400 km in 4
hours, then the speed of the
first train is:
Explanation:
Let the speed of two trains be 7x and 8x
km/hr.
Then, 8x =400 /4 = 100
x =100/8= 12.5
Speed of first train = (7 x 12.5) km/hr = 87.5
km/hr.
A farmer travelled a distance of
61 km in 9 hours. He travelled
partly on foot @ 4 km/hr and
partly on bicycle @ 9 km/hr.
The distance travelled on foot
is:
Explanation:
Let the distance travelled on foot be x km. Then, distance
travelled on bicycle = (61 -x) km.
So, x/4+(61 -x)/9 = 9
9x + 4(61 -x) = 9 x 36
5x = 80
x = 16 km.
A man goes to his office from his
house at a speed of 3 km/hr and
returns at a speed of 2 km/hr. If
he takes 5 hours in going and
coming, what is the distance
between his house and office?
Average speed
=2×3×2/2+3=12/5km/hr
Total time taken =5 hours
Distance travelled =12/5×5=12 km

speed of
100 km/hr, stopping for 3 minutes
after every 75 km. How long did it
take to reach its destination 600
km from the starting point?
A person travels from A to B at
a speed of 40 km/hr and
returns by increasing his speed
by 50%. What is his average
speed for both the trips?
To cover a certain distance, a person had
two options, either to ride a car or to walk.
If he walked one side and rode back the
other side, it would have taken 4 hours. If
he had walked both ways, it would have
taken 6 hours. How much time will he take
if he rode the car both ways ?
A winner can complete a
750 m race in two and a
half minutes. Will he be able
to beat runner who runs at
17.95 km / hr ?
Speed of the winner = 750 / 150 =
5 m / sec
We convert this speed to km / hr
by multiplying it by 18/5.
Speed of the first winner = 18 km /
hr

cover two thirds of the distance at 4
km / hr and the remaining at some
different speed. Find the speed after
the two third distance has been
covered.
Walking at the speed of 5 km / hr from his
