Directing- is wherein

managers tell their


personnel what to do,
how to do it, and when
to have it completed.
• ELEMENTS OF DIRECTING
Delegation- act of assigning to someone else a
portion of the work to be done with corresponding
authority, responsibility and accountability.

Principles of delegation;
• Select the right person whom the job is to be
delegated.
• Delegate both interesting and uninteresting
tasks.
• Provide subordinates with enough time to
learn.
• Delegate gradually.
• Delegate in advance.
• Consult before delegating
• Avoid gaps and overlaps.
Supervision- implies overseeing the work of
subordinated by their superiors.
Leadership- maybe define as a process by
which manager guides and influences the
work of subordinates in desired directions.
Communications- is the process of passing
Informations, experience, opinions etc. From
one person to another.
Motivations- means inspiring, or stimulating or
encouring the subordinates with zeal to work.
Coordinations- arranging in proper order. It
creates harmony in all activities to facilitate
success of work.
Refers to the process, programs and activities
through which every organization develops,
enhances and improves the skills, competencies
and overall performance of its employees and
workers.
Goals
• Assist each employee to improve performance in his/her position.
• Assisst each employee to acquire personal and professional
abilities that maximize the possibility of career advancement.

Objectives
• To increase employee productivity.
• To ensure safe and effective patient care by nurse.
• To ensure satisfactory job performance by personnel.
• To help employees cope with new practice role.
• TYPES OF STAFF DEVELOPMENT
• Induction training-also called as an orientation
programme, wherein the new employees are introduced
to the rules and regulation of an organization with the
objective of making them accustomed to the working
environment, where they will be working.
• Job orientation- It involves introducing them to their
team, showing them their workspace and administering
new hire paperwork. Employees will usually spend a
portion of their job orientation reviewing onboarding
information like dress code, benefits and salary.
• In service education- type of education that is
provided to the employees while they are on the
job so as to improve their working capacity and
efficiency.
• Continuing education- pursuing their post-
secondary or university-level education after
some gap.
Controlling-can be defined as a function of
making sure that actions of the employees of an
organization are directed towards the attainment of a
common goal and the work is being performed as
planned by the management.

PURPOSE OF CONTROLLING
-Open opportunities for improvemnt
-Compare performance against set of standard
-provide informationS about how well processes and people
functions.
• Control as Management Tools

Is the process of measuring the degree of which


predetermined goals are achieved and of applying
necessary corrective actions to to improve performance,
policies and procedures are used as standard.
• Controls can be separated into two elements,
mechanical and sociological. There are three
• stages of control, the first two being the
mechanical elements and the third the
sociological element.
• 1.A predetermined definition of standards for
level of performance
• 2.Measurement of current performance against
the standards
• 3.Corrective action when indicated
• The following are ten characteristics of good control system,
controls:

• 1. Must reflect the nature of the activity


• 2. Should report errors prompltly
• 3. Sholud be forwanr looking
• 4. Should point out exceptions at critical points
• 5.Should be objective
• 6.Should be flexible
7. Should reflect the organizational pattern
8. Should be economical
9. Should be understanding
10.Should indicate corrective action
Steps in Control Process;

• Establish standard and criteria.


• Measure performance
• Compare results with standard.
• Match with standard.
• If YES- do nothing to improve
if NO- take corrective acctions
