Re-defining ourselves
• Titus 2:11-14
• For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath
appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for
that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the
great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave
himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity,
and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of
good works.
• The grace of God – what we do not deserve . This grace
brings salvation . It has appeared to all men . All have
received the grace Christ died for all.
•
What does it do
• Teaching us to ,
1. To deny ungodliness
• Isaiah once exhorted his people: "Cease to do evil; learn to do good" (Isa.1:16-17)
• What is denying ungoldliness -the giving up of that which is evil and the
liberation from that which is low;
• Gal 5:19-23
• 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery,
fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred,
variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings,
murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you
before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such
things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is
love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness,
temperance: against such there is no law.
During all that time God has been trying to bring humanity back into the warm
circle of His love. But He has been able to do so for only a very few,
relatively. Many have not been interested. And some who have been
interested have never entered into the circle, because they were not willing
to meet the conditions God had to require.
• He has made His requirements as few and easy as possible. But
requirements there must be. For to accept those who would not
accept them would mean that sin, which must be excluded at all
costs (Christ gave His all that sin might be excluded, and yet
mankind be saved), would be preserved and contaminate heaven. That
cannot be!
• So God says to you and me, "I want, above anything else, to have you in My
kingdom. I gave My Son that you might be there. But the very stability, the
preservation, of My kingdom demands that I make certain minimum
requirements. This is the way it has to be. Please meet those
requirements! I want you to be with Me!"
The Bible makes it vividly clear that the new birth means a
radical change in the life: "Therefore if any man be in
Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new" (2 Cor. 5: 17); "A new
heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within
you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh,
and I will give you an heart of flesh" (Eze. 36:26).
• The fact that the newborn person is described as "a new
creature," or creation, for which "all things have become
new," who has "set ... [his] feet upon the new path of life"
(Rom. 6:4, N.E.B.), clearly indicates a fundamental, basic
change. It is not a grafting of new shoots into the old tree.
It is a new and different kind of tree.
worldly lusts,
• James 4:4
• Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of
the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of
the world is the enemy of God.
• Not a Modified or Rearranged Life
• It is not a modified life in which the sinner stops drinking and
smoking, in which he tries a bit harder to control his temper,
appetite, and entertainment habits. It is not merely an
altered life, in which jewelry is left off, in which one day in
seven is now spent differently from before, in which newly
adopted beliefs cause him to change friends and the use of
time.
• It is not merely a rearranged life in which he shifts priorities; in which,
for example, he moves sports or money, jobs or dress, entertainment
or eating, and so on, from a high place of priority to a lower place.
The Christian's life is not a modification or improvement of
the old, but a transformation of nature. There is a death to
self and sin, and a new life altogether. This change can be
brought about only by the effectual working of the Holy
Spirit. -The Desire of Ages, p. 172.
It is an experience that all, without exception, must have who are to be
recognized as members of the family of God. There are none who
came into the world born again, who might be referred to as
natural Christians and therefore not needing the experience.
• (A natural Christian) This deceptive idea has served many as a
garment of self-righteousness, and has led many to a
supposed hope in Christ, who had no experimental
knowledge of Him, of His experience, His trials, His life of self-
denial and self-sacrifice. Testimonies, vol. 2, pp. 177, 178.
• Real conversion is a decided change of
feelings and motives; it is a virtual taking
leave of worldly connections, a hastening from
their spiritual atmosphere, a withdrawing from
the controlling power of their thoughts,
opinions, and influences. -Testimonies, vol.
5, pp. 82, 83.
• The grace of God which brings salvation
teaches us this while we wait for the coming of
Lord .while we wait this is what we have to
achieve
• John 14:1-3
• Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in
me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I
would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go
and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you
unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
• Don’t get troubled this is what Jesus told his disciples – what
troubles you ?
A turning of mind and heart from the world. The unregenerate person
is naturally of the world. His main interests are normally centered
there, and cannot be expected to be otherwise. He is job-centered,
or money-centered, entertainment-centered, 12 position-centered,
or clothes-centered, may be even work-for-the-Lord centered. 13
The born-again person will not remain in embarrassed silence when
the conversation is about Jesus and His love, yet talk
enthusiastically about sports, clothes, travel, or cars. 14
Those who give themselves to Christ "are not of this world" (John 17: l4).
•Jesus is in the most holy .Christ's
ministry in the heavenly
sanctuary .
•What is it that he is doing .he is
preparing a place for you and me
while we wait for his coming . We
will not prepare when he has come

• # In the days to come Jesus saw that two dangers would threaten
the Church.
• # (i) There would be the danger of false, leaders. A false
leader is a man who seeks to propagate his own version
of the truth rather than the truth as it is in Jesus Christ;
and a man who tries to attach other men to himself rather
than to Jesus Christ. The inevitable result is that a false leader
spreads division instead of building up unity. The test of any
leader is likeness to Christ.
• # (ii) The second danger is that of discouragement. There
are those whose love will grow cold because of the
increasing lawlessness of the world. The true Christian is the
man who holds to his belief, when belief is at its most difficult;
and who, in the most discouraging circumstances, refuses to
believe that God's arm is shortened or his power grown less.
Matthew 24:6-9
• And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not
troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not
yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against
kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and
earthquakes, in divers places.
• All these are the beginning of sorrows.- the great paradigm
shift takes place here after pestilences note the change when these
happen then sorrows begin

• And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one
another, and shall hate one another. And many false
prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And
because iniquity shall abound, the love of many
shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the
end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the
kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a
witness unto all nations; and then shall the end
come.
• Because iniquity abounds love of many not few – they
no longer love to pray they seek for money more
than God, there is no love for God , they hate
their brothers 1 John 3:15. classes exist even in
the church
What happens in these last day
• We are living in the time of the end. The fast-
fulfilling signs of the times declare that the coming
of Christ is near at hand. The days in which we live are
solemn and important. The Spirit of God is gradually
but surely being withdrawn from the earth. Plagues
and judgments are already falling upon the
despisers of the grace of God. The calamities by
land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the
alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast
approaching events of the greatest magnitude.
• The agencies of evil are combining their forces and
consolidating. They are strengthening for the last
great crisis. Great changes are soon to take place in
our world, and the final movements will be rapid
ones.
• The condition of things in the world shows
that troublous times are right upon us. The
daily papers are full of indications of a
terrible conflict in the near future. Bold
robberies are of frequent occurrence.
Strikes are common.
• Thefts and murders are committed on every
hand. Men possessed of demons are taking
the lives of men, women, and little children.
Men have become infatuated with vice, and
every species of evil prevails. The enemy
has succeeded in perverting justice and in
filling men's hearts with the desire for
selfish gain. "Justice standeth afar off: for
truth is fallen in the street, and equity
• In the great cities there are multitudes
living in poverty and wretchedness, well-
nigh destitute of food, shelter, and
clothing; while in the same cities are those
who have more than heart could wish, who
live luxuriously, spending their money on
richly furnished houses, on personal
adornment, or worse still, upon the
gratification of sensual appetites, upon
liquor, tobacco, and other things that
destroy the powers of the brain,
unbalance the mind, and debase the soul.
The cries of starving humanity are coming
up before God, while by every species of
oppression and extortion men are piling
• There are not many, even among educators and statesmen,
who comprehend the causes that underlie the present state
of society. Those who hold the reins of government are not
able to solve the problem of moral corruption, poverty,
pauperism, and increasing crime. They are struggling in vain
to place business operations on a more secure basis. If men
would give more heed to the teaching of God's word, they
would find a solution of the problems that perplex them.
• The Scriptures describe the condition of the world just before
Christ's second coming. Of the men who by robbery and
extortion are amassing great riches, it is written: "Ye have
heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, the hire
of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is
of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them
which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of
Sabaoth. Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been
wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of
slaughter. Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he
doth not resist you." James 5:3-6.
• But who reads the warnings given by the fast-
fulfilling signs of the times? What impression is
made upon worldlings? What change is seen in
their attitude? No more than was seen in the
attitude of the inhabitants of the Noachian world.
• Absorbed in worldly business and pleasure, the
antediluvians "knew not until the Flood came, and
took them all away." Matthew 24:39. They had
heaven-sent warnings, but they refused to listen.
And today the world, utterly regardless of the
warning voice of God, is hurrying on to eternal
ruin.
• The world is stirred with the spirit of war. The
prophecy of the eleventh chapter of Daniel
has nearly reached its complete fulfillment.
Soon the scenes of trouble spoken of in the
• "Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and
turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. . .
. Because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance,
broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore hath the curse devoured the
earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate. . . . The mirth of tabrets
ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp
ceaseth." Isaiah 24:1-8.
• "Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as
a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. . . ." Joel
1:15.
• "I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and
the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains,
and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld,
and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were
fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and
all the cities thereof were broken down." Jeremiah 4:23-26.
• "Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even
the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it."
Jeremiah 30:7.
• We are near the close of time. I have been
shown that the retributive judgments of God
are already in the land. The Lord has given
us warning of the events about to take place.
Light is shining from His word; yet darkness
covers the earth, and gross darkness the
people. "When they shall say, Peace and
safety; then sudden destruction cometh
upon them; . . . and they shall not escape."
• The Lord is removing His restrictions from
the earth, and soon there will be death and
destruction, increasing crime, and cruel, evil
working against the rich who have exalted
themselves against the poor.
• Those who are without God's
protection will find no safety in any
place or position. Human agents are
being trained and are using their
inventive power to put in operation
the most powerful machinery to
wound and to kill.
• The judgments of God are in the land.
The wars and rumors of wars, the
destruction by fire and flood, say
clearly that the time of trouble, which
is to increase until the end, is very
• The apostle exhorts the brethren, saying, "Finally,
my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the
power of His might. Put on the whole armor of
God, that ye may be able to stand . . . in the evil
day, and having done all, to stand.
• " Oh, what a day is before us! What sifting will
there be among those who claim to be the children
of God! The unjust will be found among the just.
Those who have great light and who have not
walked in it will have darkness corresponding to
the light they have despised. We have need to
heed the lesson contained in the words of Paul,
"But I keep under my body, and bring it in
subjection: lest that by any means, when I have
preached to others, I myself should be a
castaway."
• The enemy is diligently working to see
whom he can add to the ranks of apostasy;
but the Lord is soon coming, and erelong
every case will be decided for eternity.
Those whose works correspond with the
light graciously given them will be
numbered on the Lord's side.
• But the days of purification of the church
are hastening on apace. God will have a
people pure and true. In the mighty sifting
soon to take place we shall be better able
to measure the strength of Israel. The
signs reveal that the time is near when the
Lord will manifest that His fan is in His

mightily shaken. Some, with strong faith and
agonizing cries, were pleading with God.
Condition of the church Rev 3:14-17
• Some, I saw, did not participate in this work of
agonizing and pleading. They seemed indifferent
and careless. They were not resisting the
darkness around them, and it shut them in like a
thick cloud. The angels of God left these, and I
saw them hastening to the assistance of those
who were struggling with all their energies to
resist the evil angels, and trying to help
themselves by calling upon God with
perseverance. But the angels left those who made
no effort to help themselves, and I lost sight of
them. As the praying ones continued their
earnest cries, a ray of light from Jesus would at
• I asked the meaning of the shaking I had
seen, and was shown that it would be
caused by the straight testimony called
forth by the counsel of the True Witness to
the Laodiceans. This will have its effect
upon the heart of the receiver, and will lead
him to exalt the standard and pour forth
the straight truth. Some will not bear this
straight testimony. They will rise up against it,
and this will cause a shaking among God's
people. The testimony of the True Witness
has not been half heeded. The solemn
testimony upon which the destiny of the
church hangs has been lightly esteemed, if
not entirely disregarded. This testimony
