Why safeties ?
• To protect the engine from high coolant tempt in water
cooled engines.
• To protect the engine from high cylinder head tempt in
air cooled engines.
• To protect the engine from low oil pressure.
• To protect from air lock in fuel line.
Safety systems
• High water tempt ( HCT )
• High cylinder head tempt ( CHT )
• Lube oil pressure ( LOP )

contact to battery –ve.
Water Temperature Sensor
• Sensor Body is connected to
earth point.
•Negative temperature coefficient
•Resistance decreases as
temperature increases
•At 40 degree resistance is 1-1.5 K
• Its helps to indicate engine
coolant temperature.

Parts Descriptions
• Engine Safety System: This is the unit which controls all engine
functions namely, start, Stop, shutdown protection, alarm indications
• Voltmeter AC : Use to indicate generated voltage . The range is 0-500V
for 3 phase Dg set & 0-300V for single phase Dg set
• Voltmeter selector switch: This is used to select the voltage from ph-ph
or phase to neutral. This is applicable only for 3 phase DG sets
• Ammeter AC : Use to indicate the load current of DG set. For 3 phase Dg
set three meters are used & for 1 ph DG set one meter is used.
• Frequency meter: Used to indicated frequency of generator output
• Hour Meter : This indicates the hours clocked by a DG set. This operates
on 230V AC
• Engine Oil Pressure Gauge : Indicates engine oil pressure from the
moment the engine is cranked. The proper engine oil pressure rating
should be approx. 3 bar - 4.5 bar at 1500 RPM.
• Engine Water Temperature is connected to the engine at an access port
which allows it to sense the temperature of the engine coolant. This
gauge continually monitors the temperature of the coolant during
operation. The normal temperature should be approximately 95 Deg C.
• DC ammeter - This indicates battery-charging current when the engine is
running and charging alternator is developing the voltage.
• Fuel Gauge- This indicates fuel level in the fuel tank. If it indicates a
minimum level, then fill up the tank.
• Battery voltmeter - This indicates battery voltage. This also indicates battery
condition when engine is cranking. If battery voltage is not proper during
cranking then check the battery and its connections.
• DC ON/OFF switch : This is used to put On or OFF Dc control supply.
• Canopy Lamp ON/OFF: This is used to ON/OFF lamps inside the canopy
• DC ON Lamp : This indicates that the control circuit is ON
• Load ON Lamp : This indicates the out put breaker is ON
• External Socket : This is used for the supply of water heater from 230V
auxiliary source.
• Relay Board : Controls Start / Stop functions , The contacts are used
to drive starter solenoid & stop solenoid.
• MCB : Single pole circuit breaker is used to connect battery
positive to all Dc circuit
• Contactors : The contactor is used to transfer the load from mains
or generator.
• Current transformers : This is used as per DG current rating & secondary is
connected to ammeter to display load current.
