 INTRODUCTION :
• Opium is the Latin name meaning the
juice of the poppy.
• The botanical name of opium is
papaverous somniferous.
• Opium is a strong poison and is obtained
from the unripe capsules of the poppy
plant.

 MENTALS :
Opium is a great remedy for distinct and

• The white poppy is an

annual plant found wild in
the south of Europe and
here and there in
England .
• It was cultivated by the
ancient Greeks.
• It is now extensively
cultivated in India ,
Persia , Egypt, and
Asiatic , turkey.
 PREPARATION:
The gum opium is obtained from
the capsules by incision , is dried ,
powdered and converted to
mother tincture dilutions made as
directed under class 4 (except
that 2x and 1st potency will be
prepared with dilute alcohol) D.P
of the tincture 1/10.
 POTENCIES :
 In intestinal affections the higher attenuation seem
most in Favor .
 In the lower attenuations , opium is adapted to
delirium tremens , restlessness, spasmodic and
convulsive disease , spasm of bile duct or of the
bladder , rectum and uterus , chorea , epilepsy and
tetanus, spasmodic asthma and diarrhea.
 In the higher attenuation adapted to apoplexy ,
coma, paralysis , ailments of old people, general
insensibility of the nervous system and constipation.
