OVERVIEW AND RATIONALE:
• CRLA is an innovative way of DepEd to irradicate the
language literacy gaps of students.
• In S.Y. 2020-2021, children had 32 weeks of extended
break due to the Pandemic.
• Easily classify students who needs additional support
per reading profile from grades 1, 2, & 3.
• Identifies strengths and area of improvements.
• Gauges and categorizes the reading abilities of
students into four (4) profiles;

BEFORE THE ADMINISTRATION:
1.1 Orient the parents and guardians on the CRLA
Send them the following reminders before the assessment:
a) Day and a time of assessment
b) Tips on how to prepare their child emotionally and
physically
• DO NOT show them or give them a copy of the CRLA tool.
• DO NOT describe the tasks to them.
• The CRLA was developed using a meticulous process to
ensure a standardized,
accurate, and authentic measure of children’s reading levels.
BEFORE THE ADMINISTRATION:
1.2. Prepare yourself and your materials for assessment
• PRACTICE! Study the administration procedure, the
Administration Guide as reference. Simulate the
administration procedure with colleagues several times
for mastery.
• PRINT the following documents and bring them to the
assessment with you.

WHEN TO DISCONTINUE ASSESSMENT?
• When the child is obviously unless or
distressed, ask the child if they want to
continue with the task or just reschedule
the assessment.
• Grade 1 - When the child is Full Refresher
or Moderate Refresher in the CRLA Part 1
tasks.
• Grades 2 and 3 - When the child is Full
Refresher in the CRLA Part 1 task.
