INTRODUCTION /BRIEF HISTORY OF SIWES
The Student Industrial training work Experience Scheme is a skill training
programmed designed to expose and prepare Students of Universities,
polytechnics, College of technologies and College of Education for the
industrial work situation which they are likely to face after their graduation.
The scheme is to give students the opportunity of getting familiar with and
expose to experience needed in handling tools and materials which are not
provided by the institutions of study.
SIWES was established by ITF in 1973 to solve the problem of lack of
adequate practical skills preparatory for employment in industries by
Nigerian graduates of tertiary institutions.
The Scheme exposes students to industry based skills necessary for a
smooth transition from the classroom to the world of work.
AIM/OBJECTIVES OF SIWES
To prepare the mind of the students towards work methods and
techniques in handling equipment and machinery that are not
available in their institution of study.
To the prepare student for employment in the industries and
commerce.
To make transition from the institution to the labor market easier.
To bridge the gap between the theory and practice by giving
students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in the course
study
To enhance student contacts for letter jobs.
Create an avenue for students in institution of higher learning to
acquire industrial skill and experience in their course of study.
BACKGROUND /HISTORY OF ORGANIZATION
Austino Computers and Sons Enterprise is a family-owned business that
provides general printing, paperwork, cybercafe services, graphic design,
financial services, and training. Established in 2010 with its address at
Ewokiri quarter of Otuoke town, Ogbia LGA, Bayelsa State and later
move to its present address in 2017 at Mrs. Happiness building in
Okpuorein compound, Otuoke town, Ogbia Local Government Area,
Bayelsa State. The company has two major departments (Product
/Services and Finance Unit) with eight staff members. The CEO, Mr.
Austine Okan, manages the company, which has been providing quality
services to individuals, groups, and corporate bodies. The company was
incorporated by the Corporate Affairs Commission of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria in 2014.

HEAD AND THEIR FUNCTIONS
Products /Services: This department is headed by a manager who
is in charge of managing the development, introduction,
and continued operation. He makes sure that products meet
market trends, company goals, and client needs.
Customer Relation Officer: The Customer Relations Officer
(CRO) is responsible for maintaining and enhancing
relationships between the company and its customers. Its
primary duties focus on ensuring customer satisfaction,
addressing concerns, and fostering loyalty
Cleaner: The cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe,
and organized work environment by way of Sweeping,
moping, and vacuum floors in all areas, including offices,
hallways, and restrooms. He also dust and wipe down
surfaces such as desks, chairs, shelves, and equipment.

Finance Unit: This department is headed by a manager who is
responsible for overseeing the financial operations, ensuring accurate
reporting, compliance, and effective financial planning by developing and
managing the company's financial plans and budgets. Also prepare accurate
and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance
sheets, and cash flow statements.
Cashier: She is responsible for handling financial transactions, ensuring accuracy
in monetary exchanges, and maintaining records of cash and other payment
methods such as processing cash, credit, debit, and other forms of payment
for goods or services. She also provides receipts and change to customers
accurately. She assists customers with inquiries about prices, services, and
payment options.
Secretary: The responsibility of the secretary is to ensure the smooth
administration and compliance of the company. She acts as a key point of
communication between the CEO, regulatory authorities, and stakeholders.
ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT
Graphic Design: Designing graphics using tools like Adobe Photoshop,
CorelDRAW and Microsoft Publisher.
Type-setting: Learning how to arranging text and images in a document to
prepare it for publication, ensuring that it is visually appealing,
readable, and adheres to a specific style or format using Microsoft
Office Word.
Proofreading. Learning how to review and correct written content to
ensure it is free from errors by identifying and correcting
grammatical errors and typos, ensuring the use of proper spelling
and word choice, checking for missing, misplaced, or incorrect
punctuation marks and ensuring consistency in punctuation style
(e.g., Oxford comma usage).
Operation of Equipment: Learning how to operate the
equipment such as photocopy machine and printer
Research. Learn how to make research using the internet.
Create, fill and submission of an online form.
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS USED
Some of the computer applications use
during my training are as follows:
1. CorelDraw
2. Microsoft Office Suit (Word,
Excel, PowerPoint & Publisher)
3. Photoshop
4. Google chrome browser
5. Adobe Reader
6. Droidcam
CONCLUSION
Industrial training is an essential step in shaping students into
competent IT professionals, ready to contribute effectively to
the ever-evolving tech industry. It not only enhances
employability but also inspires innovation and continuous
learning in their future careers.
Through hands-on experiences in areas such as graphic
design, type-setting, proofreading and making research on
the web has enable me gain valuable technical skills and
industry exposure.
This training helps to build confidence in my abilities,
understand workplace dynamics, and develop problem-
solving and teamwork skills crucial for success in the IT field.
Moreover, it offers insights into real-world challenges and
prepares me to adapt to emerging technologies and trends.
