The event known as “Balintawak: the Cry of
Rebellion” holds the significant historical
importance in the Philippines, as it marks the
beginning of the Philippine Revolution against
Spanish colonial rule. This report delve into the
historical context of Balintawak and provide an
account supporting the claim that the uprising took
place in Balintawak.
The Cry of Rebellion occurred on August 26,
1896. The Cry , defined as turning point
when the Filipinos finally refused Spanish
colonial dominion over Philippine Islands.

1.Location of Balintawak: Balintawak is a district in
the larger area of Caloocan City, Metro Manila,
Philippines.
-Cry of Rebellion in Balintawak held at the house of
Apolonio Samson, then the cabeza of that barrio of
Caloocan.
*From 1908 until 1963, the event was
thought to have occurred on August 26 in
Balintawak.
2.Guillermo Masangkay
On August 26, A big meeting was held in Balintawak, at the
house of Apolonio Samson, then Cabeza of that Barrio of
Caloocan. Among those Who attended, I remember, were
Bonifacio, Emilio Jacinto, Aguedo del Rosario, Tomas
Remigio, Briccio Pantas, Teodoro Plata, Pio Valenzuela,
Enrique Pacheco, and Francisco Carreon. They were all
leaders of the Katipunan and composed the Board of
Directors of the organization.
-An article from The Sunday Tribune Magazine on
August 21, 1932 featured the statement of the
eyewitness account by Katipunan General
Guillermo Masangkay, “A Katipuner
speaks”.Masangkay recounts the “Cry of
Balintawak”, stating that August 26, 1896, a big
meeting was held in Balintawak at the house of
Apolonio Samson, then the cabeza of Barrio of
Caloocan.

1.Donya Gregoria de Jesus’ Account:
-in her memoirs and interviews, she recalled the
events of the Cry of Balintawak.
-One significant is attributed to Donya Gregoria
de Jesus
( Aling Oriang ), the wife of revolutionary leader
Andres Bonifacio.
-According to her account, the secret society
Katipunan held its first Public assembly on
August 23, 1896, in a house in Balintawak.
-The gathering took place in the house of
Melchora Aquino, also known as Tandang
Sora, which was located in Balintawak.
